Which card is worth going with?

    Hi all,

I recently had to return my card because it was faulty, and am going to spend a bit extra on getting a better card. I'm torn between the Nvidia GTX 660, GTX 660 Ti and Radeon HD 7870. Is it worth spending an extra 50 euro for the Ti, or should I go with the 7870 which is 20-25 euro more or go with the 660? I'm really stuck and need help please?

    Thanks in Advanced

7870XT. Can be overclocked to outperform a 660ti and is cheaper. What's the rest of your setup like? PSU, CPU etc.?

    My Setup is:
    Psu: Corsair CX500
    CPU: AMD Fx-4100 @3.6Ghz
    Motherboard: asrock 970de3/u3s3
RAM: Corsair 1x8 GB Low Profile 1600
GPU: VTX3D Radeon HD 7850 (Currently being prepared to be shipped away for refund)

Cool, your PSU is fine. Do you have an aftermarket CPU cooler? If you do, I'd OC that CPU to 4.2+ghz :P. In any case, a 7870XT should be fine. I'd get this one

    http://www.hardwareversand.de/2048+MB/75632/Sapphire+Radeon+HD+7870+XT+Boost%2C+2GB+GDDR5%2C+DVI%2C+HDMI%2C+2x+Mini+DisplayPort%2C+lite+retail.article

    Or this http://www.hardwareversand.de/articlesearch.jsp

The first one has a much better cooler and will be able to overclock higher most likely (and will be quieter, too).

It's even cheaper on MF (shipping more expensive, though, figure out which is cheaper overall). http://www.mindfactory.de/Hardware/Grafikkarten+(VGA).html/48/21073

Is that quiet as well, because I'm getting tired of the VERY noisy stock cooler by AMD?

Yes, a lot quieter than the stock cooler at any rate.

Would it really matter which card I go with as I really have no interest in overclocking in fear of breaking something, or should I still spend the extra bit on that card? What I am maybe looking at is this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00A1572FK/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE

You will not break your card when overclocking. It's near impossible. 20% performance gains are just so good man :) That card is good too, but weaker than the 7870XT. Remember to stick stuff through Flubit if buying from Amazon if you want to get a small discount.

Is that not the 7870? The one I showed you? Also... Flubbit?

It is, I meant it's a bt slower than the 7870XT, I edited that in, made a mistake.

I think it would be best if you laid out exactly what you want and your max budget, because you keep changing small points and asking questions. Where are you buying from?

Flubit is a site whereby you sign up and link a product on some UK site (like Amazon). Within 48 hours they offer you the same product with a 5-10% discount from another seller. This is a time-limited offer just for you. If you don't accept it it expires. It's great for getting savings on stuff. There is no pressure to accept an offer or anything, I have often just thrown in a link every now and then to see what kind of offers can be got.

I think I'm going to be buying from amazon. And I think I'm going to stick with what I have here. Just one more question, will that cooler you suggested fit in this case? http://www.amazon.co.uk/Zalman-Z9-Plus-Midi-Tower/dp/B004FPQL0E/ref=sr_1_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1371344202&sr=1-1&keywords=zalman+z9

Not sure if you have the appetite for another VTX card, however there is a really good price on a 7870 XT there, only £3 more than that regular 7870 from Sapphire.
