    Hi.
I completed in Pgde in 2009/2010. In January and February 2010 I did several hours of subbing during my teaching practice. Think I was paid privately by the school by cheque but may have received a dept of ed. pay slip aswell can't really remember. Does this teaching mean that I am pre January 2011 and able to enter pay scale at point 3/4 and get old allowances? Any help greatly appreciated I've had so many differing views in this subject.

If you were paid by the school for all hours you covered, then no - you are on the new pay scale. You will be on the old pay scale if you were ever paid by the Dept.

Thanks for reply. This doesn't make much sense it's very unfair if that is the rule. Hmmm think I'll follow this up a little more and kick up a fuss because I don't see how you can be penalised of a school paid you out of their kitty at a particular time just because it was an uncertified sick leave etc. I still did the subbing and taught the classes.

I know, it's so unfair. Not just that you did that work pre-2011, but even for newer teachers who had never taught pre-2011 - equal work for equal pay.

I did my dip 2010/2011 and only started on the old scale because of the few department paid hours I did before Christmas.

I don't know how successful 'kicking up a fuss' would be, though. Have you anything more concrete? For instance, have you been teaching abroad since or anything? I say this because, as far as I know, they're sticking hard and fast to the 'department paid' aspect of the clause. You should also see how you're classed in terms of your pension. If you're going to be classed as a new entrant for that, you're losing a lot of money there too.
