Can this motor be connected to single phase supply.

    What motor?

    What motor?

Tried to attach picture but didn't work.
Its a 1hp motor 240v delta with 6 wires in the junction box.

    That's a 3 phase motor

Why does it say 240v on the plate?

The line voltage will be 240 v connected in delta

If it has six terminals, I agree that it would seem to be a three-phase motor.

I do not know if the connections can be make to operate on single phase - I think not though.

You said it was rated output of 1 HP - that would be approx. 0.75kW - I am surprised that such a small motor would be three-phase. Are you sure it is only 1 HP.

Could be a motor designed to be run on from a single phase to three phase inverter. The output voltage of the inverter is three phase 230 volts

Its a small water pump stamped 1hp,

You could get a variable speed drive that could get you 3 phase from a single phase supply. It would be an expensive way to go. Might be better off just getting a single phase motor instead.

i think they're dual voltage if i recall correctly

    240 delta
    400 Y
    3-phase

    Is that 240v 3 phase?

    yes 3-phase

    240 delta
    400 Y
    3-phase

A 3 phase motor with 240v windings will run the same in delta 240v line as in star 400v line, although its actually 230v rather than 240v delta = 400v star. (400/ root3)

For something with a steady loading, small 3 phase motors can be run from single phase with the addition of 2 capacitors. The best solution here though is likely a single phase motor instead.

yes always easier learning from the basics up
i was mixing the figures up
he said 240 so that would have been 240 or 415 line voltage on the old system

Yea I wasn't really pointing out the voltage difference, 230 or 240 is all the one really. Was just mentioning it sort of in passing.
