The brake on my bike are Tiagra and they have 55mm long pads. Can I replace them with 75mm pads or will they be less effective being longer?

They will be less effective because the won't fit, being 20mm longer.
I suspect that the longer ones are v-brake pads as opposed to road caliper pads.

Ok thanks, will stick with the standard size so.
