Stove chimneys on ground floor extensions

A friend of mine is considering building a ground floor extension to the rear of a
3 storey semi detached house. He will have a pitched tile roof on it and is hoping to put in one of those solid fuel burning stoves out there.
Obviously this will need a chimney, does anyone know just how high this chimney will have to be. As i mentioned his is a 3 storey house, the top floor is like a dormer as the rear rooms up there have velux windows. I was thinking that his stoves' chimney would probably have to go right up level with his existing sitting room chimney, does anyone know for sure?
