Surely you can't compare a scart picture to a HDMI picture?

And, can you not usse a HDMI cable for TV -> UPC?

Im not comparing i was just saying that to clear up that my tv wasnt the problem. The picture is just terrible. every channel there writing on the screen theres blur around it almost double vision. close up of peoples face is full of imperfections. this is a top of the range sony bravia lcd surely the picture should still be excellent on a scart thru digital. on another note my cheap 28' is fine with it. could it be having a problem transmitting to a larger tv screen? im at this all day cant sort it out. the upc box has no hdmi port to use just watching normal tv.

Check the menu settings on the UPC box to make sure you're sending RGB and not composite down the SCART cable to the TV.

Aside from UTV, I found the non-HD picture quality excellent on my last (SCART only) UPC box, on Horizon now.

Ah fair enough. I would do as CoyleMJ suggests and ensure that the picture is set to RGB. otherwise, would it be worth upgrading thr UPC box to a newer one with HDMI.

If you have UPC BB, then it might be worth a call - they are doing some CRACKING deals at the moment. If you do call them, tell them that SKY have been on to offer you 6 months free BB - that'll focus their minds, and you'll get a good deal.

would assume he lives in an area where all thats available to him is the basic tv package.
upc needs to get their fukking act together and sort that out.

Had a problem with an old UPC box before where the 4:3 / Widescreen / Zoom setting was wrong; resulting in a slightly 'zoomed' picture with exaggerated pixellation/compression artifacts. Setting that correctly (to Widescreen, in my case) resulted in a big improvement in quality.

upc tech came around. guy agreed the picture wasnt acceptable on a tv like that.he just said the boxes are crap with scart compared to the hd boxes with the hdmi cable even with sd channels. he said a good quality tv will show it up and no way around it other then hd box and hdmi lead. i got both free of charge and have some free HD channels. picture and sound is waaay better on sd and hd is unreal. cant complain about the customer service.
