Ok first of all I hope I'm posting this in the correct place! Ok ill explain the situation and then ask the question to which I'm looking help with! We are having a wedding in a marque with no bar. Now on the invitation it's down as a bring your own but we wish to supply some beers as an alternative to the prosecco toast and as an alternative to the wine with the meal and in case anyone forgets or doesn't grasp the concept of byo. We also wish to provide some spirits as well for the same reasons. Now I have been lumped with the task of organising this, and I have been out of the country for a few years so I'm not up to scratch with what people drink etc... What I'm thinking is maybe two different beers, maybe some cider and a selection of spirits. What do people suggest re brands. I'm not looking for craft beers just mainstream brands which people would normally drink.

Beer wise I'm thinking maybe Carslberg and one other? Possibly Bulmers cider and for spirits I was thinking, Smirnoff vodka, Hennessey brandy, Possibly Jamesons whiskey and maybe Gordon's gin? I'm open to suggestions for alternatives, would we be better providing Bacardi instead of gin?

Also what mixers would people recommend? Coke, 7up, tonic, ginger?

Many thanks, if it make any difference as to what people drink in different regions the wedding is in Rural Ireland.

A lot of people don't like Carlsberg, so maybe Heineken would be a better option there it would keep Carlsberg drinkers happy enough too - and Guinness. You might also think about Bulmers as a third option, maybe even in bottles (I assume the beers are keg). You need Guinness, otherwise people will talk :P

I'd say Gin over Bacardi - and the brand won't matter much between Smirnoff or Huzzar, Gordon's or Cork, Jemmy or Powers, but do get Hennessy.

Mixers: coke, tonic, 7up and all your bases will be covered.

I think Budweiser is usually your best best if you're trying to serve a beer that will appeal to as many people as possible. I wouldn't refuse a Jameson. I'd get the cheapest vodka possible. At the end of the day it all tastes the same, and most people try to drown out the taste with coca cola anyway.

To clarify its all bottles, no kegs. Just easier to manage and organise! So that kinds rules Guinness out I guess, cans to messy and bottles just ain't right. Was thinking Heineken and Coors light maybe instead of Bud? Some women would be partial to the Coors or so I'm told? Prefair it to bud myself as well. I'd rather Carlsberg instead of Heineken but Heineken is probably the better option. What about miller?

    Thanks for the replies folks

Go to Tesco, see what's on offer. Only get things that are on offer.

I'd say the most preferred beers would be Heineken and Budweiser. Get Bulmers Longnecks as well. All of those go on offer regularly in Tesco.

For Spirits go for whatever Vodka is on offer, Usually Smirnoff and whatever Rum is on offer. If Captain Morgans is on offer at any point get loads.

If ye know any publicans then get onto them and ask them to bring you to a Cash and Carry warehouse, then just get Huzzar Litre bottles and whatever else they'll sell you for cheap.

Remember, this drink is for those too cheap or lazy to bring their own, no need to break the bank.

Cheers, ill probably deal with the same off licence which we bought the proseco and wine from as they know the score and we have got a decent deal from them and can return anything that's unopened. Yea captain Morgan's is another likely option, seems to be a rather popular drink at the moment. Cheers

I know one or two offlicences that will sell regulars the drink but take back what dosn't get touched. It takes out the 'have I got enough'.

Keep back a couple of trays of cans and a few bottles of spirits incase its needed, if not you'll get your money back.
