    Hi all,

Can I just mention that I've googled me arse off over the last couple of days and I'm starting to have that 'going around in circles' feeling. Any help really would be appreciated..
I'm 41 and looking get back into cycling and see how I take to it. Thinking of starting with a hybrid and have a budget of €300 ish..
I think I have it down to the Carrera Crossfire 1 from Halfords or the Jupiter Tuscan from Duffs Cycles.
What people tend to be saying is that the Halfords bikes are good value but the setup can be problematic in some stores. Smaller bike shops seem to do better setups. I'm leaning towards the Jupiter for that reason alone.
I looked at them both in the shops and couldn't really find advantage with one over the other. There seem to be people praising and giving out about the Carrera in equal measure.. Less written about the Jupiter but seems pretty positive.

Would love some input on this.. Any other options that I may have missed? My preference is to stick with a new bike bought from a shop..

    Thanks

If I was buying from Halfords I'd buy the Carrera Subway, no telescopic forks but disc brakes. Had a carrera subway before and was delighted with it.

Bought a Boardman with hydraulic disc brakes and it's a great bike.

Halfords service is not the best but if you can see past that the Carrera is not a bad bike.

    Hi Trad,

Thank for that. Actually heading to Halfords in a while so will check out the Subway. Looks really good though. Might even come back with lighter credit card... I crap at making decisions though..

    Thank again

+1 on the subway, its a great starter bike, not too heavy and is strong enough for anything the irish roads can throw at them. Have mine a year and a half, with no problems at all. Think there is a deal on at the moment aswell. Also if u have car insured with axa (or know of anybody) bring ur axa card and u will get a further 15% off.

I picked up a 20inch Subway this week at the current Sale Price of €312. Had a 10% voucher that brought it to €281.

(I believe the Axa is only 10% as well. I waffled that 'I can't find the Axa Card and was told to just bring in the Tax Disc off the car!! - so that's a way to go. If you know someone insured by AXA - just borrow his Insurance disc off the window for 20 mins!)

Anyway - back to the Subway...only 2 x days in and it seems to be a fine bike. I didn't want a 'mountain' bike and this style attracted me. Make sure you spend time measuring up in the shop. They did not have a 20in built when there and I used the 'red' subway as a measurement tool but this Subway's handlebars are slightly further out and am now messing about with saddle to get my arms comfortable. But a fine bike.. gears great, love the brakes, great on hills and looks the dogs goolies!

oHHH...also had a U-Lock from old bike but this frame is 'thick' and can't get the attachment onto this frame!! Bugger... but will persevere. Anyone with any ideas welcome to contact me!!
