went about getting a service kit for the starlet today. long story short, local motor factors (Top Part) only sells MPM oil. never heard of them, wondering is it any good? Fellas behind the counter obviously sung its praises.

We used to have an AD in town with a few good brands of oil, i used to get castrol in there for a good price but it has since gone bust and Top Part have moved in.

i know you will say it all boils down to the spec and approvals on the oil, but is there a benefit really to buying branded e.g. castrol/ millers/ liqui moly oil versus an unbranded equivalent or is it in my head?

I used to use it on the avensis a bit. Can't say if it was good or bad cos you could have thrown anything into that car and it would've been grand.

Castlebar? I got some in top part too and was thinking the same thing. Must keep an eye out for the offers on castrol oil in Halfords. Probably feck all difference really!

With your Glana I wouldn't scrimp on oil. Millers or Motul all the way, expensive but worth it

It's a good quality oil. MPM are a Dutch company. Their oils are popular in the US. Top part have exclusive distribution rights for Ireland so it's all they carry. I know for fact that it's manufacturer approved. I use it myself.

It does all come down to spec at the end of the day but you can rest assured with MPM Oil, its top notch premium oil, very manufacturer specific, and is approved by pretty much all of the manufacturers at this stage as far as i know.
    Its a Dutch company www.mpmoil.nl
Wouldn't be the cheapest oil out there but then again if its cheap you're after you probably wouldn't have voiced your concerns in the first place!

I have MPM in my car, long over due a change, and no problems. Specs met and usually these small name oils are made by the big boys anyway.
