Well fellas, im waiting around on UPS here to deliver my 2nd parcel. Is there any thread or guide that could help me in building my first rig.

I have a fair idea what to do, its mainly just for something to consult if im not sure about something. Planning to get the build started on monday morning as that will be my first chance to dedicate the day to it.

    Thanks in advance :)

Ask us here :) we're always happy to help. Or look up a video on YouTube. I think Linus/NCIX have a good tutorial up.

    Cheers Fella.

Hopefully I should be alright but its just if I do get stuck. Planning to put a few builds together in the next few months so should test myself to see if im up to the job :)
I looked up a few tutorials before so its just the wiring that im a bit iffy about as that isnt covered too well online.

Will be sure to post in here if any problems arise

Ok, iv run into my first problem.

I got the last bits for my system today and my processor (fx6300) came with no CPU cooler. Is this normal or should it come with a stock one even? I bought the tray version which said a heat sink was included. Here is the ordered part: https://www.hardwareversand.de/Socket+AM3/80150/AMD+FX-6300+Prozessor%2C+Tray%2C+Sockel+AM3%2B.article

If i wanted to get the system up and running today im assuming it would be dangerous to use no cooler. I have a stock intel one from a Dual core if that would suit?

You need to buy the boxed version to get a cooler. The tray is cpu only and definitely do not run it without a cpu cooler.

Your Intel stock cooler will not fit it.

Ah ill learn from my mistakes. I was going to get a Hyper 212 Evo anyway but would one of these do in the meantime?http://www.adverts.ie/other-hardware/cpu-heatsink-coolers/3001605#comments

Im due to collect a few kettle leads off this fella and could pick one of these up if there suitable? Or is there a difference between stock AMD fans? Was allowing not to attempt to turn it on without a CPU fan but said id ask

Yeah that should do. Just let him know you need am3 socket fittings.

You will need some thermal paste as well unless his coolers have never been used.

Cheers, yeah mentioned that it was for an AM3 board and asked about thermal paste also. Can even pick that up locally.

Heres hoping i dont run into more problems... :)

I have a stock AMD cooler from a Phenom II lying around that I'd be happy to give you for free. I probably don't have the right fittings for AM3, though.

Iv actually told that fella on adverts that I would take it off him. Im getting 5 kettle leads off him also(im short 2 at the minute and also another for my new PSU. And im not travelling out of my way as im in Athlone on thursday anyway. He has fittings for AM3 which is perfect. Also got hold of thermal paste.

Now the next question, im just tidying up the wiring right now and getting that sorted out. Should I fit the board now or wait till I get my cooler? Can the cooler be fitted to the board when in a system or is it best to remove the board when fitting the cooler?

Also I could hook up my new HDD to my laptop to install windows. Is it best to wait and do this when I have the system all put together or could I save time by doing it now? I have win 7 SB disc.

It depends on the cooler and case. Some coolers have backplates so you need access to the back of the board which is possible with cases that have large cut outs.

Afaik that stock cooler doesn't use a backplate though but it's usually still easier to do it outside of the case.

I'd wait to install windows on the new pc in case it automatically installs some drivers for your laptop.

Ok, think I have everything wired up correctly so far but just want to check here first.

I seem to have everything connected to the motherboard(power, reset, leds, sata for hdd, sata for dvd drive, card reader, usb ports, ram, graphics card, pci card, audio).
And also run the 2 power cables(Main Power 24pin and ATX 12V4+4PIN) to the mainboard along with 2 sata connections for the dvd and hdd.

What im left with is 1xPCI-E(6+2PIN), 4xPeripheral (4Pin), 3xSata(5Pin) and 1xFDD. Do these have to be connected to anything else?

And does the case look reasonably tidy? Still got to fit the case fans, which I have 3 of and also the CPU cooler. Then just tidy up the Sata cables. But other than that am i on the right track?

You should have put the cpu the board with the cooler on it outside of the case because I wouldn't advise put pressure on the mainboard inside the case because you could snap or damage the board .

Im planning on taking the whole lot back out before I fit the CPU cooler. I just placed it in to get wire management done ok. Waiting to get a CPU cooler Thursday because I forgot to order one with my build. So said id have all cable management done before then to save me time.

How does it look other than that and any advice if I need to use any of the 1xPCI-E(6+2PIN), 4xPeripheral (4Pin), 3xSata(5Pin) and 1xFDD connectors?

    Looks fine, nice and tidy.

I don't think that card needs additional power connections so you should be fine.
