it looks more like a 3 series coupe with the same boring dash

Jaysus, that a big button on the center console. Is it the ejector seat control?

I have to say I like the car

    Pricey I expect, about €45 to €50 K?

Touch of the Hyundai coupe about it

At least the minimum engine is now a 20d/i instead of the poxy 16/18i's and d's in the 3 series.

So I guess this is to fill the non existent gap between the 3 series coupe and the 6 series coupe?

This is to replace the 3 series coupe.

Maybe it'll grow on me but .. meh

Boring, nothing stands out in its looks in the photos, will wait to see in the flesh to see if the reality is any better. I agree with the Hyundai comment, it has that look but maybe that is accentuated by the colour, the darker ones look better.

Edit: isn't that the climate control out of a focus?

    It's decent looking alright.

But it's pure marketing. Lower and widen a 3 series, call it something else and charge extra for it.

It worked well for Audi and their A5 up to now. Falls into line with the 6 Series which is a 5 Series coupe and the upcoming 2 Series which replaces the 1 Series coupe

Also the M3 will now just be a saloon, estate and GT. The Coupe, Gran Coupe and Convertible will wear M4 badges.

Car entertainment system control knob, has been around for the last 10 years with BMW, Audi, Mercedes...

But there was never an A4 coupe. BMW already had a 3 series coupe, they've just rebranded it. They're making something out of nothing. :)

It's the iDrive controller isn't it?

435d Xdrive would be some car, but the 420d Xdrive auto would run it close in the real world for less money

whatever you do get the adaptive damping and get rid of the run-flats at the earliest opportunity

It looked much better in the heavily photoshopped teaser images, Dark grey was very forgiving to the design.

Those vents on the wings are absolutely unforgivably awful.

Will reserve final judgment till I see it in the metal, but this is not looking good.

Nice machine I can't see the entry level model looking like that

They were always the minimum engine to coupe so no change.

Disappointed with the look, front ruins it for me, too much like the saloon, side profile is good and back is boring.

Shldnt have come out with such a great looking concept if this is what they were going t end up with..

Although I'd like to see one in the flesh, I'd much rather a 3 series saloon in M Sport trim. The photos aren't helping the car at all.

Of course it's a marketing thing. Audi had the 90 coupe/convertible based on the 80 saloon and estate back in the late 1980s. The A4 convertible took over then based on the second generation A4 but they never produced a hardtop version until the A5 arrived which is based on the current A4. Pitching the A5 as a standalone, posher model despite sharing lots with the more mainstream A4 has been a big success for Audi. Same goes with Mercedes Benz and their CLK, BMW took note and are just doing the same now.

That disappointing. Very very average looking compared to the concept.

While true to a degree, it could be argued that audi had the 80 based cabriolet then a4 cabriolet, which has now become the A5 cabriolet so they are doing something similar to bmw by creating badges for specific markets.
Edit; I didnt copy bazz work. I promise :)

Nope, they did have 16's and 18's in the range.

    A review of the 318coupe:

    And from Wikipedia:
"The E92 is available in the 316i, 318......"

Can't get my head around that kink in the bonnet.

    Inside and out looks ordinary.

Ah, didn't know they were introduced in UK late in model cycle. Never here though?

Would imagine they will appear mid cycle in 4 series so.

I'm disappointed at the lack of aggressiveness when compared with the concept, it's very ...bland. Lets hope it leaves a lot of improvement for the M4

I know there wont be a single petrol model sold here, but if somebody would be so kind as to buy a 4wd 435i auto ill take it off your hands in 5 years :D

A5 is a 6 year old design and it still looks better than this.

BMW's are getting uglier and uglier. And this model isn't anywhere near the ugliest.

I dont like the general trend within BMW lately, the x35d models are now going AWD.

Think he meant x as in model identifier - for example it could be 335D or 435D or 535D - the X just signified the 3.0 bi turbo in the different models.

Think RedorDead is right, he meant *35d,

But on your point, the new X5 is getting a 2WD model, mainly for lower road tax it would seem.

Was thinking more of the x models as in the 335x which on the continent refers to the 4WD model of the car. BMW doesn't sell 4WD cars in either Ireland or the UK.

    x35.... meaning 335/435/535/635/735

As opposed to 35xd which would be AWD, or X3/X5/X6 which are (mostly) AWD

They haven't been called 335x for well over a year now. It's 335i xDrive, 335d xDrive, etc.

For the record, though, it's only the 335d and 435d that are xDrive only. The 535d, 640d and 740d (640d and 740d are identical to the 535d engine wise) are all still very much available with rear wheel drive - though these models are of course available with xDrive in LHD markets.

On a different note, am I the only one who is sad that the only petrol model in the 4 series that has the correct number of cylinders is the 435i? They should offer a 430i with the correct number of cylinders at the very least. It's also very sad to see that there are more diesels with the correct number of cylinders than petrols.

It's so difficult to post in a BMW thread without mention of the correct number of cylinders :) Looking forward to the M4 btw - 6 cylinders.

Going back to the correct number of cylinders in the M3 is unquestionably a good thing, it's just such a shame they had to corrupt it with turbocharging:(!
