Was driving my 01 audi a4 1.9tdi on Tuesday in Portlaoise when I noticed that it was loosing power. I started pressing down the accelerator more and was getting a delayed reaction about 2 or 3 seconds later.
After some more driving the cabin started to fill with smoke from the rear.when parked my partner looked at the exhaust and said that the smoke was black.
Parked the car up at my sisters and had a mechanic friend check it out.He thinks that the mass air flow sensor may be the culprit but advised to get it hooked up to check for error codes.
No dash warnings have displayed on the dash when this happened.
The turbo was replaced in Mar 12 but that seems to have been ok since.
    Sound like Maf issue?
    Appreciate thoughts.

Check the pipes going to and from the turbo. Sounds to me like an air leak. Cheapest fix if it is.

Managed to get the car back to my house. The power was crap but I was more afraid to pump the peddle as there was smoke entering the car from the boot. I stopped a few times to check and the boot was full of smoke. I didn't see any smoke underneath the car with just a little coming from the exhaust pipe when the car was stopped.

Not sure it the smoke is coming from a cracked exhaust pipe but I would have expected a noise from the exhaust if this was the case.

If there's no smoke coming from the tail pipe I'd say the hot exhaust is melting something under the car.

I'll doublecheck but I think smoke is coming out of the exhaust but also some coming through the boot.
When I saw the smoke coming into the cabin and knowing it was coming from the boot I thought I might see a plume of smoke underneath the car but there wasn't.

But there is a nasty smell that comes with the smoke so something could be getting burned under there.

    Is the power loss consistent?

Good question. Is it always low power or does it accelerate and then suddenly lose power. I'd definitely check the turbo pipes for leaks. With the bonnet up, they are on the bottom left hand side of the engine (I think!)

It can be slugish to move off(sometimes its fine), then with the peddle down after a few seconds it may decide to speed up but then seems to max out and not want to go faster(~in the 25-40 mph zone).
To be honest I just wanted to move it somewhere more secure so I didn't really care about the speed.I didn't take a chance of accelerating hard due to the smoke/smell coming in from the boot.
