Hey guys, I have an older pc and wanted to upgrade it and give it to a friend. The problem is that it was build before ddr3 came out.

    The specs are :

CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 965 BE
    GPU: Sapphire Vapour X 4870 1gb
    MOBO: GA-MA790X-UD3P
    RAM: 4gbs Corsair XMS2 800mhz CL5
    HDD: Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 ST3320613AS 320GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache
WD 1TB Green 7200 rpm (Both are pretty bad but it was a budget system)
PSU: Corsair TX650 650W Power Supply

Any suggestions? I am going to get a evo 212 and OC the CPU. Would another 4gbs of ram help or is the 800mhz just usless these days? I would try to get the ram second hand on adverts if i could. Are there any cards arround €100 euro that will out perform the 4870? The 4870 is getting 50-60 fps in bf3 on med settings.

Still a good chip. No games that truly need more than 4 gigs ram... yet

The 4870 was almost as fast as the 5770, so anything faster is an improvement, I suggest trying to scrape together cash for a new 7850..

If you are stuck at 100 euros, then personally I would hit ebay or other and get a 5870 or 6870 just to get a good jump in FPS rather than a minor one

Sell the 4870 for 50 quid, +100 you have should get you a 7850, or failing that a 7790 or 650ti boost
