having got a final reminder from ESB even though previously I've had no problem, attempts to find out costs online of installing solar power systems has met with zero results unless direct contact is made with the installers. why so cagey? why no pricing structure to allow people some basic information to make up their minds whether to invest or not, before they contact?

probably as an installation like solar is so bespoke that offering any pricing information without any knowledge of the site would be like answer a questions like "how long is a piece of string"

Why would you be so hesitant as to actually contact them. Plus I would imagine installing a solar system that would negate the requirment to be on the main grid would be quite high for a family home.

Are you talking about solar panels as in water heating... or PV which is generating electricity directly from sunlight?

it is not a straight forward here to sell electricity back as it is in the UK. In the UK solar panels generate electrical power and this is fed back on the grid, micro generation. People are still charged for the electricity they use over and above the amount they generate so they need a connection to an electricity supplier to supply them with their own electricity and they get a credit back for the amount they produce themselves.

As discussed above you'd need to clear up if you are talking about solar thermal or PV first.

possibly the SEAI would expand on this for you.
