Just wondering if anyone has had any issues with the outside temp reader before.

When I start driving it just keeps going up, it was 33.5c this morning when it was only 13c outside.

If the sensor has gone just wondering roughly how much they are to replace?

    Thanks

Not uncommon for the unit itself or the contacts to get some water / grim on them. Could be an easy fix if your happy to take it out and give it a quick clean. Not sure of the exact location but given the Golf popularity there are plenty of DIY's online.

The sensors are cheap enough off VW, €25 or so IIRC which compares very well to Ford for example who would want €75 or so off you for the same part.

Not sure about the mk5 but on the mk4 the sensor is located just behind the bumper on the lower passenger side and can be reached via the lower bumper grille,so is handy enough to change.

Does this mean taking the grill off or just putting your hand down behind/under it?

A quick google tells me if you remove the lower centre grille it's on the right hand side at the corner of the rad.I don't think your air con will work at it's most efficient if the ambient air temp is reading off so worth changing.
