Hi my 5 yr old son is looking to take part in motocross. Would appreciate if someone could give me as much information as possible about kids motocross, i.e, how to get started, where competitions are held, what type of bikes to look out for when buying and ones to avoid, where to pick up the safety gear for his age group etc. I am relatively new to this sport so all information much appreciated, thanks.

Did motocross many years ago, when God was a teenager :D many tracks in use then are not used now, but I do know the permanent track in Ferns, Wexford is still going strong.
As for machines and clothing, maybe Vigors MX near Arklow, Tims Off Road in Laois and Inchaquire Industries near Athy.
But IMO your best place to start is www.motocross.ie,
Hope it works out, it's a great sport ,I loved it ,till I got too old an started getting hurt!:(

Lookup motocross.ie and some of the links to be found on that website..Note that the minimum starting age for motocross under the control of the Motorcycle Union of Ireland (the governing body of motorcycle sport in Ireland) is 6 years. Licences are required for all cometitions.
Make sure the kid wears proper protective gear, like hellmet, clothing and boots and that the bike is suitably sized.
