Mother has just bought a 2013 Renault Clio

When the lights are set to "0" the daytime running lights are always on. Mother does not like this.

Had a look through the manual and it says daytime run lights are on the whole time.....BUT they can be de activated via the "media"

Had a look in media booklet and I couldn't find a way to de activate them either.

Anyone know if the daytime running lights can be de activated in a 2013 Clio.

Why does your mother not like this?

I don't know why you'd bother but is there a fuse you can pull or connectors to unplug and tape up?

Leave them on.Might seem silly to your Mother but its safer to drive with lights on during daytime.

They're a safety feature, reminds me of when my grandfather hacksawed the head restraints off his mk2 escort.

Wouldn't they go off if she turned on the headlights?

I'd be surprised if they can.

Ask the dealer or alternatively explain to her that she shouldn't be looking at the front of the car while she is driving it

As of 7th February 2011* DRLs have become a mandatory fitting to all new type approved passenger vehicles (except trailers).

DRLs must switch on with the vehicle ignition and switch off when the vehicle sidelights are switched on. They can also be made to function as front position (side) lights, which operate at a reduced intensity when the vehicle sidelights are switched on.
    European law.

So no, they can't be turned off. If she doesn't like them that much, go buy a 2010 car.

    Unfortunately it's not true.
They are compulsory to be mounted on the car, but they don't need to be activated.
If OP's mother wishes to have them off, she can go to the dealer and they should deactivate them for her.

Anyway - I still can't understand why anyone wouldn't like them.
How did she found out at all they come on?

    Just cut them off

Funnily enough i do find them very intensive on the Clio when driving towards them

Wasn't there a thread on here recently with a lad in a passat who found a way to turn off without a dealer? I'd imagine pulling a fuse might do it.

Don't know why she wants them off though. She can hardly see them as she's driving!

If there's a trip computer on the car go through the settings and see if there is an option. I know on our octavia you can go into the onboard computer and switch them off permanently if you want not that we have them off but you can. Maybe it's the same on the Clio.

They'll probably stop working at some stage anyway :D

My car (2011 Golf) has them. Can be turned off easily in the menu in the trip computer. Is there one on the clio? It's personal preference really. I turned mine off. Could you just take the DRL bulbs out?

Maybe you should have came in here to ask advice on what car to buy rather than buying it and then asking how to fix it.....hehe

TBH these old jokes of Renaults falling apart apart are boring now.

I'd like one with the nice blue colour

Finally, a reply that actually deals with the simple question being asked without going off on tangents. Thanks bpmull

    I'll have a look tomorrow.

Not familiar with the Clio, but I know on the A5 you used to be able to turn off the DRL's failry easily via the set up menu, but when a driver of a March 12 A5 didn't like them, that option had dissapeared.

This would have been one of the first Facelift models of the A5, and even my Audi dealer wasn't sure if they could be turned off. Think they eventually got back to say it could be done in the dealership, but the driver had got used to them at that stage.

I can't wait until everybody stops switching on their lights "as sure they are on already".

I wonder will discussion of people driving around with front DRL lights on and nothing else end up being banned like fog light discussion
