    Hi,

I'm just wondering how and where do ye get ye'r graphic design software such as photoshop, illustrator and indesign etc.

Do you guys actually fork out the thousands of euros or do ye find it from other (maybe not so legal) sources?

I am a student with no money what so ever and really cant afford to be paying for this. I am studying graphic design and am not able to access my college computers during the summer. I really want to keep practicing over the summer but is it actually impossible or is there a way to get these programs for cheap or even free?

Any help would be much appreciated!
    Thanks

    A popular option is:
    http://www.software4students.ie/
Adobe also have their own educational licensing scheme.
    http://www.adobe.com/ie/education/students.edu.html

Your institution may also have a solution.

Also you could use the free 30day trial to keep you going until you get the cash together.

Of course this may be a good time to get to know some of the FOSS alternatives. These would be good for any student to be familiar with.

As per the charter, there is to be no discussion of pirated software.

I use gimp for photo editing, not sure if it has all the features of photoshop but I'd give something open source a go before shelling out any money.

I've actually tried the free trials but can't seem to get them going on my computer. Im not sure if its just my computer being ****e or what but they dont seem to be working for me!

Anyway i know there are a good few other free versions of photoshop like gimp and whatnot but are there any other versions of Illustrator that produce vector images?

Thanks for the replies they are very helpful!!

Adobe CS2 is now free, good starting point.

€19 per month no contract for all adobe applications - beats paying thousands!

<no discussion relating to piracy, please>

cs2 isn't actually free afaik adobe just disabled the activation servers for it meaning you can download and install it and run it with a serial number without having to activate within 30 days, but technically this is only if you actually bought cs2 back in 05 or whatever. Still, the reality is if you want to learn these programs for free and are willing to have to adjust to the differences in up to date versions later on, you can go ahead and do that without getting viruses or adobe getting mad.
