How bad is the AMD stock cooler?

    Hi,
I will possibly be putting together a budget PC build with an FX-8350 and was wondering what to expect of the stock cooler?

I won't be overclocking and the PC will probably be used for medium gaming.
I wouldn't be too obsessed about quietness (for reference I find the stock Intel coolers fine in that regard) though hearing tales of AMD stock coolers sounding like hairdryers / vacuum cleaners is making me consider an aftermarket cooler. Though I suspect in some of these horror tales a BIOS configured to run the fan at a high RPM is responsible?

Why not buy an 8320 and get a good cooler with it? You could easily set it to a minimum of 8350 speeds and higher if you wanted. Something like a coolermaster hyper 212 evo or a thermalright macho should net you around 4.5ghz.

I ran stock cooling on a Phenom x6 for a few years - with cnq enabled, so for the most part it was fine. But I moved house and whatever way I rearranged my setup I started to notice it a lot more to the point of it beginning to annoy me. Was looking at reviews and the like for a replaced but in the end just picked up a €30 Coolmaster Hyper TX3 EVO in Peats and it's so much quieter :)
