Its outsource to another company, they go through tendering process so you wont know till Sept and it can be different one each location.

I done one year with fas and one year in crumlin. Fas make you do four and a half days so can be very boring. You can be with people who only there for extra money or just because they have to do a course. My two teachers where a mix, couldnt control class so lot of talking. Also if you missed day you didnt get paid. also no holidays for whole year besides xmas but its very short like only few days.
Whereas with crumlin college it was better only in two and a half days but learned loads. We did classes like proper college say two hour of tax, two hour of accounts break then another subject. Was more interesting that way. We got paid even if you didnt go in, so only people who wanted to learn went in. Also great at the end you can stay at home studying if that suits you better. You get holidays like school times mid term etc.

The only benefit fas has is they pay for books and exams but if you get vtos with college they do help.

    Hope this helps

Thank you for your advice. I really want to study and there is nothing about money. I do jot get paid anyway, just it is the only way to get creche for my daughter. Kinda can't afford those crazy money if I go just like that.
So,you are saying if I go through VTOS, they can give an option in college to study two days a week??

It depends on college and there timetable. If u get vtos they pay for full time place in creche for your daughter.

I was in the same boat as u, i have a 3yr old.

Hoping to start this in Galway in Sept. Can anyone advise me on the interview and the aptitude exam please

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,174 ✭✭✭bulmersgal

Interview is only about 2 weeks beforehand. Aptitude test for us was about 20 questions with maths questions, percentages etc. was multi choice. Interview was informal enough

    Hi Gregom,

I think u're right about gmit offering accounting technician this year during the day. See on their website. http://www.gmit.ie/business/accounting-technician.html

    Anyone have any more info.

Just finished this course, went full time through Athlone IT. The worst was forking out €600+ to ATI. Not going to use the ati qualification, staying in college and starting year 2 of 3 of the bachelor in accounting degree in september

Hi bulmersgal! i got my interview next monday...what to expect? what type of questions? etc...? what do you mean by informal enough !! any info thanks a mil!!!

Informal as in asking why we wanted to do course. Few general questions that was it. Could be different in your location

my location was ridiculous, 55 people turned up for 20 spots so they decided it was to many for an interview. They gave a very brief outline at first and then the easiest aptitude test i have ever seen. I mean one question was along the lines of 12 x 3, different numbers but that principle. That was it!! 19 out of 28 questions is required to past and after that its a case of who signed up first. I mean I just finished a computerised course, the level below this, and half the people on that couldn't do the thing. I think I was 30 odd on the list, just have to hope that the at least 15 of the 40 people who didn't show up were before me.

Ours was same two years ago 100+ for 40 places. Some people just like the course cause they are guaranteed 9 months on the course. I spent some days in the course with people sitting around reading magazine and discussing the soaps quite loudly while I was studying for the exams. Surprise surprise they failed. I hope the people who want to do course for the right reason pass and not people doing it for the extra money

i'm in baldoyle and already done the test, passed the test and now invited for interview so kinda wondering what format it'll take, i read here somewhere on boards that the interview consisted of questions such as what were debtors, creditors, fixed assets and so on... others say some informal questions like BULMERSGAL already mentioned so all in all i was looking at the most recent experiences around here... ;)

I am just about to start 2nd year with FAS, I'm doing it thru ecollege, online lectures, a few tutorials during the year... I found 1st year to be really good, great lecturers and great support from the tutors and the best thing is that I could study at home

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,239 ✭✭✭Guffy

Duno what I was worried about. A bit of a weird one though. 20 spots on the course apparently with 55 people going to the induction overview thingy and I know for a fact the last person on the lift got offered a spot?? Anyway I start Monday yay

I have just started Year 1 with FAS and was wondering if FAS pay for the exams in May or do you pay for these yourself.

    FAS pay for everything

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9 Balloony

Yes FAS pay for everything, exams, books and all recorded lectures that they sell to other ATI students

Started year 1 with fas online this week. Very messy so far. A days notice for induction. No one is sure who to contact with queries like this or any other sort. Hope it sorts itself out soon.

    Who's the provider?

You will the hang of it.. There is a forum where u post any questions and I recommend you use it, the knowledge point tutorials are very helpful, the recorded lectures are brilliant and the tutors were very helpful too... We had the option to go into college for a few face to face tutorials with the tutors 3 x during the year, that was also helpful and I got to meet the other students.
It does take a few weeks to get the hang of it... Just stick with it and keep on top of the weekly lectures
