A socialist councillor resigned his seat from the Drogheda Borough Council after someone apparently paid his property tax.

At first I thought this sounded a bit stupid. If true, it wasn't his fault.

Then I read the comments on the IT page and realised that people were saying he knew about this before the deadline passed yet was still encouraging others to put their own necks on the line by not paying and only came clean now.

So cynical or principled? I think cynical and hypocritical. Not for the paying of the tax, if someone else did pay it without him knowing, but for not coming clean about it in time to allow others to pay before the deadline.

"Socialists" - always finding new ways to trick the gullible and vulnerable!
