VAG 2.7 TDi unit

    Hi Guys,

The old wagon is not far off end of life and I'm putting some thought into a replacement. Looking at the A5/A6 with the 2.7TDi unit, the tax is roughly the same as the '05 1.8 I'm driving now and they seem to be a bit cheaper to buy (in the UK anyhow) than the 2.0TDi units.

Anything to look out for? Are they hounds on diesel? Any issues with that particular engine?

    Any feedback greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    gerardk55

An A4 2005 1.8T is end of life?
To the question, owners typically say the 3.0TDI is a better unit.

    Hi Matt,

Not currently driving an audi, have a Mazda 6 1.8, 376,000kms so she is coming to the tail end of the good years. Been looking around for a while and nothing is really jumping out at me as a replacement and the 2.7TDi engine looked like something that would give a definite boost on performance, probably better fuel economy (currently 35mpg) and neglible cost of owenership. (Apart from the initial outlay obviously).

    Open to other suggestions.

    Thanks.

In fairness, i don't think either the 2.7 or 3.0 will come near your Mazda for lower cost ownership. More performance. Better economy - maybe. Negligible cost of ownership ? - not a hope.

That doesn't mean don't buy one btw, just buy one for the right reasons, with your eyes open.

I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

I understand that servicing will be more expensive, more frequent, tyres will probably be a bit more, but currently getting mileage allowance which should cover the worst of it.

To be honest, just don't know what to replace the 6 with when the time comes!

The general consensus is not improved enough overthe old 2.5 to justify buying and not a patch on the 3.0. You will always just regret not buying a 3.0,esp when it comes to selling.

I may be wrong also but a lot of the 2.7's seem to be FWD also!
