Overnight stop-over in Stansted Airport

As above, arriving 23:00 departing 06:30 next morning. Is there anywhere to sleep for a bit somewhere in the airport? Does the airport close or would some of the cafés/restaurants stay open? Would you recommend sleeping airside or landside?

I'm stuck between an overnight in Dublin airport or Stansted, at least with stansted I can get a direct flight home the next morning, if I do it in Dublin it's another 4 hours on the road... Also cheaper to go through STN.

    Thanks for any opinions.

You won't be allowed sleep airside so would have to be landside, they wont let you go through security at 11PM for a flight the next day.
There are cafe's and a spar open landside 24 hour so there will be somewhere to go.

FWIW I did this today/yesterday, except my inbound flight arrived at 23.45 and the outbound departed at 06.00.

I booked the Days Inn at Stansted, for about €50 including taxi fare I had a quiet dark space away from airport security announcements, a soft bed to doze on, shower and breakfast from 4am.

My advice is if you need to be functioning the next day, have a look at the airport hotels. If you don't, then sleeping in the airport is a comparatively easy way to save €50+

Booked the parents into the Bishops Stortfoed Travel lodge for the night - about 25 quid. Taxi to and from. Better than staying in the airport for the sake of a few quid.

Completely agree if the previous two posters. I have slept at heathrow, stanstead and gatwick and it is crap and you feel like crap for the entire day. If you really really must sleep at the airport you need to get their early to get a bench to sleep on, otheriwse it is the floor. Try to take an inflatable matress (one of the tiny camping one) and a blanket to make yourself at least a little bit comfortable. You'll pretty much get no sleep on a cold floor, being kept away from people walking past, talking and cleaning machines going beep, beep, beep and then people lining up to check in from about 4am. Seriously, try to find the money for a hotel - it is worth it.

How much sleep did you actually get in the hotel though? if you're in at 23:45 you wouldn't be in the hotel til about 1am, then you need to be back in the airport for about 5am for a 6am flight?!

I don't need to be functioning the next day, thankfully, but I will check out some of those hotels suggested.

    Thanks all!

I stayed in the stanstead hilton last year. £49.95 for the night. Got in at 11.30 pm and left at 5 am the next morning......worth every penny to have a bed for a few hours.

I stayed in the Radisson Blu in Stansted for a night last year - got in around midnight and flew out at 6.30. I hadn't anything booked - I thought "It's only a few hours, I'll sit up", but didn't fancy it when I got there and the accommodation (or hotel info. or something similar) desk was open and booked hotel - it's a short walk from arrivals. I slept only a few hours, but it was well worth it.
