Cars from Trade sales

Wondering if anyone has bought a car that originated from trade sales. I am currently looking to buy a Skoda Octavia, during my hunt I came across a car in a dealers 2012 but with 37K miles. It is 19,500 if trading in or 17,500 straight. I was also told it is still under manufacturer warranty until 2015 as its a 3 year one. The garage is not a main skoda dealer. Anyway, just wondering if anyone has ever bought a car that came from a trade sale. The salesman said they get to buy these at a good price and so can sell on for a good price. He thinks it was a company car as opposed to a hire car. Anyway, anyone bought something along the same lines and what was your experience after purchase!!! All experiences welcome :)

so basically you are looking at buying a 2012 (potentially ex company/ fleet) car from a dealer?

with cash or with a trade in?

yeah it was trade price and i think id just go with a trade in than trying to sell my own privately...

you are confusing terminology i feel.

there is a large difference between "trade price" and "trade in price".

so basically he is offering the car to you for 19500, less your trade in's value then. a perfectly regular sale?

Forget about this 'trade sale' business - all it means is that one garage sold the car to another. Look at the car the same way you would any other - is it what you want, and is it fairly priced?

toyatofanboi...what it is, is that - the garage bought it at a trade sale for a good price. trade sale cars are usually either ex-company or hire cars. I am also going doing it as a trade in as I want to get rid of my own car. So im really just wondering if anyone else bought a car that was from a trade sale ie ex-hire/ex-company and how was their experience!

well anan1 i am just wondering when it was not just 1 owner maybe in the past but has been used as a company or hire car, do people find they have anymore problems etc with these than cars that had 1 owner!

That really depends on the driver, but a private owner is generally considered to be preferable. Who was this car first registered to?

a "trade sale" is a motor trader picking up a car from another motor dealer afaik.

for example buying a car in from another garage into their own, buying a car in from auction, a garage obtaining a car from most other means than a trade in would be a trade purchased car.

this is not something i would worry about, it's just confusing your situation.

if you are concerned over the cars past. i would check for a service history and i would do a motorcheck report on it. these 2 things will tell you most likely everything you will need to know.

well thanks to you both for those - must check who it was registered to and will look into the motorcheck. I am going to see it on saturday but wanted to have a few things in my head before i go in terms of what i want to find out! I know it has a full service history so i must just see it. Thanks for the advice :-)

Well a full service history is a good sign. what kind of mileage is on it?

37,000KM....mind you from ringing around there it seems like a lot of cars available for that price that are UK imports...
