We are thinking of walking a section of the northern camino this summer. does anyone know if the places to stay for people walking the camino allow for this? will the only let people stay who are walking the camino and getting the stamps?

They never checked the Camino passports and stamps when we were there. They wouldn't know you're doing it in reverse. I'd say it'd annoying meeting people along the way all day. At least when you're all going in the same direction at roughly the same speed you have some time to yourself and don't meet hundreds of people along the route every day.

Have to agree with Dory - walked part of the Camino a few years ago and rarely met anybody traveling in the opposite direction (other than a few hardy souls making the return trek but that's bordering on masochism) - the hostels will certainly accept you but you could find the occasional stickler that will insist on stamped Camino passports - after all, they don't want modern day vagabonds or hobos taking advantage of cheap accomodation.
Anyway - why bother walking it in reverse?
