I am very interested in learning more about the carpentry of boat building.
Would anybody know of any volunteer boat building or boat building courses that are open to join in the Dublin area. I've been googling this, and although some results come up for elsewhere in the country, I haven't found much in Dublin.

    Thanks

Theres a workshop place in Ringsend that does this with groups of youths and also with unemployed people.

They learn the skills to build a boat together, and then they get to go sailing or rowing in it at the end of the build.

The boats launched from the sailing club down by the Eastlink Toll Bridge, and are then sailed and rowed along the mouth of the Liffey.

Hi seb83 I build my own wooden boats and you are welcome to come and have a look at my builds if you like. You will also find the boat Im building at the moment here in sailing & boating where I hang out :Dhttp://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055963665 or in the links bellow. If you are more into sailing or rowing I know the Skerries rowing club https://www.facebook.com/groups/147824402013025/ build their own boats and are always looking for new members also the mermaid club build their own boats http://www.dublinbaymermaid.org/.
My boats are from Glen-l plans so if you would like to build your own have a look here and see if there is anything you like http://www.glen-l.com/boat-plans-catalog-300-boats-you-can-build/ I can help you every step of the way in the sailing & boating section and answer any questions you might have :)

    Hi guys,

Some really great tips, thanks very much for sharing. I've emailed DFEi, but unfortunately their course is full-time, something I cannot combine with my job.
Fergal, those boats you've built look wonderful! I'm very grateful for the invite, where are you based?
Paddy, would that be the Poolbeg Boat and Yacht club? I might give them a ring.

    Thanks again.
