So the car failed the NCT today.

Few bits need to be done on her. Not taking the caps off my alloys my own fault. Kind of annoying though as when I got it NCT'd back home 2yrs ago they didn't fail me on this. Result for the side slip test are puzzling. Anyways, does anyone know any good independent garages in south dublin who are not on the hard sell or out to screw you? Based in the Leopardstown area.

Am I reading that the tyres are more than 6 years old?

One tyre could be. I put a part worn of the rear left for the test. The other tyres are not that old.

I think because your front wishbones were worn you have to repeat the side slip test. Looks like it wasn't done.

You need wishbone bushes and a cv boot.
    What kind of car?

My Grand Vitara failed with the exact same nearside front wishbone+bushes, they look first, if the look worn they don't even bother with the test.

i priced around, from the garage i originally purchased the car i got a quote of €576 inc labor for just one side.

I went to Perfect Cars in Dundalk ( I live in Drogheda ) total cost €230 inc labor, it passed the NCT the next day.. make sure you shop around!

Aye thanks, that's what I intend to do. That's why I'm asking does anyone have any recommendations for leopardstown area.

I had similar experience myself before with a well know dublin franchise garage (non dealer) who told me I needed to replace both front wishbones when it was only the bushes that were gone. Tried to give me some cock and bull story about not being able to replace bushes on passats along with a long list of other stuff that didn't need to be done. Unfortunately it is guys like this that give the trade a bad name and the type of individuals I'm trying to avoid.

Bit weird its both front bushes. I only got the the nearside one done last year. Its also a bugger its not the Wishbone rear bushes as I actually have a spare set of them.

Or even a local independent in the general area? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The wheel alignment has to be done again after anything to do with steering has been replaced, and most cars that havent been tracked after ball joints or track rod ends or wishbone bushes have been replaced, will usually fail on wheel alignment.

I'm thinking it should be in and around 200euro to get this work done. That sound about right?

You'd be doing very well. What car is it?
    A B6 passat, not a hope :)

    Roughly

    Tyre - 80
    CV boot - 100
    2x bushes - 150 - 200
    4 wheel alignment - 45 - 75 euro
