    Hi All

Have seen & heard a lot of advertisement for this company recently & am using it as a post header but would welcome advice regarding any similar companies too

Just have a couple of questions regarding the purchase & use of this insurance

We are hiring a car in Spain in September for the 1st time in a few years (1st trip after having baby)

Usually in the past have hired through Centauro & had good service with them but its been a while since we hired a car & things have changed esp with regard to fuel policies

Has anyone any advice regarding the use of such insurance?

Did anyone have any trouble getting the insurance accepted at their respective hire desks?

Has anyone found any differences in attitudes to this insurance between international companies ( Hertz etc.) as compared to the likes of National companies like the aforementioned Centauro etc?

Has anyone used a similar company & whats your experience been like, would you recommend?

I have been on a few sites recently with the intention of hiring the car & there is quite a difference between companies with regard to Excess so would welcome any feedback

    Many thanks in advance

FWIW, I have hired cars in France in the past few years with Hertz and Europcar and in both cases I didn't have to pay one cent at the airport over and above what I was quoted on their online sites.

Based on what I have read on boards, it seems to me that smaller car hire companies specialise in leaving out as much as possible in order to be able to give attractive quotes only for them to lumber the customer with mandatory/ambush charges when they arrive in the airport.

So I guess my answer to you is this: go with the big boys and you won't need supplementary cover.

The car hire excess insurance is a good choice and its much cheaper than paying the excess (super insurance as some call it) with any car hire company.

For example what will happen is that you were quoted say €200 for the car and when you get there they will try sell you personal insurance and excess cover which will double the price - if you refuse both they will instead do a pre auth on your credit card for a couple of hundred Euro.

Showing them the excess insurance you have bought with the above company or AXA will not change anything as they don’t recognise it and really don’t care. If you have a crash you will have to pay the deductible to the car hire company (depending on what car it could be €900-€2500).

When you get home then you would claim this back from your car hire excess insurance company.

In terms of fuel, Hertz, Axis, Sixt etc will give you the option of returning the car full so basically you pay for what you use. Some of the more local companies will just charge you for a full tank (overpriced) and you return it "empty" even though you may still have half a tank, there is no refund.

The bad thing aswell with the smaller companies is that they have massive lines at their desks as they would be quite popular in the summer so pay a few extra Euro and go with a larger brand.

If you are flying with Aer Lingus there is an option under your booking to get car hire off Hertz for a reduced price.
