first it cannot be your policy if your dad is the main driver. and if you are going to be doing most of the driving of the second car, and you are only a named driver its not legal. its called fronting. once the insurance company finds out that you are the main driver, but only declared to be a named driver the insurance is void. best to keep it legal and get insurance in your own name. i know premiums are expensive for young drivers. in the process of saving for my own.

If this is your main car then it's not allowed for your father to be the main insured.

If you have an accident and they find out it, for instance, the car was your means to work, your insurance will be void and if you go to court over it you will have to pay the insurance legal fees too out of your own pocket.

I'm not sure if it's illegal ? but the insurance companies will not allow this.

well why dont you just become a named driver on his car then? surely there is no need for there to be another car with insurance, tax etc. seems like a waste of money to me to bother with the second car. not 100%sure about the NCB, but i dont think you can split the NCB.

Not sure about using no claims twice, I'd really check with the insurance company about this. You can get in a whole lot of expensive trouble if you are in an accident.

Be honest with the insurance they will advise you.

But if you are the main driver of a car in your dads name and the policy is in his name that is not allowed.

would driving it equally be ok? he would probly be driving it more than me .

Yes a person can have two cars with his/her insurance and have a named driver on one car.
You should read the terms and condition for his company, or have him ring them and ask.

But I doubt he can take over your Aviva insurance so you can drive on his NCB and get a lower cost.

I've used my NCB twice, however that's on a regular policy and a vintage policy, both with the same company and the vintage policy is on limited mileage.

Somehow I doubt that what OP is trying to do is kosher.

No you can't use your ncb twice
even if he was to switch to aviva?

Well I would say a Judge would think that driving it to work would mean you're the main driver of a car that is insured in your dads name, this could get you into serious trouble if this could go against you in court. Just think of the legal bills if you were in an accident !

oh i see. well any chance you could get your mum as the main driver of the second car? insurance companies might get suspicious if your dad gets a second policy with you as a named driver. might think your fronting as explained before

Just be honest with the insurance company and tell them what you want and they will tell you if it's allowed, it can't be more simple than this.
