Hi all . My girlfriends car failed the nct a week or two ago and I plan on picking it up later and doing some work on it to get it ready for the re test . Only problem
Is I won't be re testing it in the same centre it failed . Is this allowed ? As in can I re book it in another centre the work has been completed on it ?

I'm pretty sure that the retest has to be at the same centre as the original test. You could book a test at a different centre but it will be a full test, not a retest.

I think I've worded this wrong :) the retest date is for this Friday . I won't have the work done by then so it will be a full test I'm getting again . I don't mind paying the full test . But I will be booking it into my local centre and not where it failed . If that's possible ?

A retest can be done anywhere..

you can book a full test for anywhere you like.. And if you get one in a different centre for an earlier date in the meantime you can go and do it.

Thanks for that . Is the waiting list long for a test now ? I'm trying to sell the car for her and want to get it sold ASAP

I got a retest 2 weeks later in same centre (stupid caliper needed a clean, pad was catching a bit) but you can test/retest anywhere, it's not connected to your address or county.

Thanks lads . All my questions have been answered . I think her car went down on bushings and worn rear tyres so it's not too bad to get sorted

Yes, but book it for the date they give you and just keep ringing them every day and you can generally get a really short date due to cancellations.

I booked a retest Monday morning, got a date of Sunday 23rd, went over to the test centre yesterday, they were fully booked up, I said I'd wait around and it was done within half an hour.

Is the car back dates from the nct expired date ?

If you car was supposed to be tested in Feb 2013 and you actually test it Jan 2013 or April 2013 you still only get a cert valid until Feb 2015.
Cert lenght is dependant on anniversary of first test, not the date car is put through.
