    Premieres: Sunday, September 29th at 10pm (ET/PT)

MASTERS OF SEX stars Michael Sheen and Lizzy Caplan, who will portray the real-life pioneers of the science of human sexuality, William Masters and Virginia Johnson. The series chronicles the unusual lives, romance and pop culture trajectory of Masters and Johnson. Their research touched off the sexual revolution and took them from a mid-western teaching hospital in St. Louis to the cover of Time magazine. The series is an adaptation of Thomas Maier's book Masters of Sex: The Life and Times of William Masters and Virginia Johnson, The Couple Who Taught America How To Love. The pilot episode was directed and executive produced by Academy Award® nominee John Madden (Shakespeare in Love, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel), and also stars Caitlin Fitzgerald (It's Complicated), in the role of Masters' wife, Nicholas D'Agosto (Heroes) and Teddy Sears (American Horror Story). Emmy and Golden Globe® award-winning actor Beau Bridges and Margo Martindale also appear. MASTERS OF SEX was created and executive produced by Michelle Ashford (The Pacific). The series will also be executive produced by Sarah Timberman, Carl Beverly and Judith Verno. Michael Sheen, Tammy Rosen and Thomas Maier will serve as producers. MASTERS OF SEX is produced by Sony Pictures Television.

Ausiello from TV Line calling it the best pilot since Mad Men

Plot and character looks a bit fuzzy to me.

meh, I think it was more a social and cultural movement rather than ascribing it to any particular group of individuals.

I liked Michael Sheens accent, dunno if it was accurate in terms of place but it sounded "just right" to my ears, not being obvious in any respect.

As for the episode, just as Masters felt he had to be on his best behaviour at times to get his programme under way it felt to me that Masters of Sex was being terribly proper in its atmosphere, certainly careful with regard to where the sheets, machinery and limbs were placed with regard to the naughty bits, which both ironic and typical. Even on grown up American telly you can still only go so far.

Has anybody been watching this? I'm watching on Channel 4.

It's actually exceptional, powerful stuff. Great acting by all the cast, Lizzy Caplan is a revelation.

Havn't seen this weeks (watching Tinker Tailor on BBC4) but I've been struck by how pat some of its storylines are, also lacking real drama. The bits with Masters wife Libby and the Dean wife have been the most absorbing so far (though that handiman teaches Libby to dance shtick last week was a bit much)

I think the great cast is elevating what is, for all it's pretension, a pretty basic soap opera with the barest background of 'science stuff going on' to serve as a thin thematic 'lesson of the week' for the characters.

Soap opera? It's set in the '50's.

I dunno, I seem to be seeing a bit more depth to it than most here.

    Just my opinion.

I was hoping that would develop into a Far From Heaven type plot.

That's that homage to Douglas Sirk isn't it?

On my must see list every week as well. There is a lot of ground to be covered and its certainly the first 50s era show I've not fallen asleep during. Mad Men is just 1980s Dallas with 50s suits. The Hour was worse than The Newsroom which takes effort. This one is funny when it needs to be and dark when you least expect it.

The first episode of the 3rd series has aired and the second is going out tomorrow in the States.

Very strong first episode back, in my opinion. I wish more people watched this show.

Presumably More4 will have it in the next couple of months so.
