CD stuck in iMac

I inserted an 80 minute CD-R into the CD drive to copy songs to iTunes the other day, and I could read the CD, and copy the files.

Hoever when I tried to eject the CD, it refuses to come out. Every 10 seconds or so I get a short whirring noise like it is trying to be ejected but seems to be stuck.

I have rebooted and can still see the CD, but when I try to eject, the icon disappears and I just keep getting this intermittent noise.

Are there any other methods I can try to eject the CD other than trying to open up the iMac and dismantle the drive?

It is a 2006 iMac and doesn't have the pinhole beside the cd slot to force it open manually.

    Any help appreciated!

EDIT: keyboard shortcuts don't work either...

Press and hold the mouse button as it restarts?

Tried that and it didn't work. I have a feeling it is a hardware issue and I will have to open it up :(

A thin piece of plastic can do the trick. Here is a video link. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gkMJDOER4uM

Tried that but didn't have double sided tape. However, it did suggest tilting, shaking etc.. So I pressed the eject key, and hit the back of the iMac, where the drive is, with my fist and hey presto! The CD popped out!

So, success. Hard to believe such a crude method would work, but when all else fails...

Hey, I'm glad you got it out. Some discs are very thin and do need a little help.

Blank discs are bad for this and especially so the cheaper ones seen in bundles of 50 :)

This one was a CD-R alright, but not a cheap one!

I have noticed some noises from the drive before, as if something wasn't quite lined up properly inside so maybe just wear an tear.
