Fallen behind in TV License

    Hi

    Due to financial meltdown last year I did not get a TV license and a new one is due about now for 2013 so just wondering, when I go to buy the 2013 one now whats the craic - are they going to charge me for 2 years does anyone know?

    Yeah it'll be back dated to the date your last one expired. You also buy a licence for the next 12 months, so if your last one expired 15 months ago you end up paying for 27 months when you renew and not 24 months as you may expect.

    Nope - you should only get charged for the current year. Same thing happened to me and I was only charged for one year.

    I paid online after they called at the door by the way. Someone else had been taking care of it previously - they left the house and it was forgotten about until the guy came to the door two years later.

    You can pay by direct debit monthly. Your first instalment will include all your arrears, and the first month of the current licence, and then it's monthly after that. They don't charge anything extra for monthly instalments.

    Could you not put the tv licence in someone else name that resides there and say they just moved in?
    I cant see how they will back date you for it.
    If that were the case would people who rent not be caught out like this all the time?
