Trying to remember the word for the Lay Sisters who did the menial jobs in Irish convents all those years ago when hierarchy was in force. They were called the 'something Sisters' but I can't remember the name.

Can anyone remember that far back?

What exactly is 'menial' about such work ?

Why do you call this work 'menial' ?

    Nothing functions without this work.

Who does these jobs in your house ?

Do you consider their work menial ?

    What a defensive reaction!

No particular work was mentioned - what work do you think was meant?

    According to the CatholicCulture Dictionary

The term "extern Sisters" is sometimes used, but the expression is misleading
