I have long fiberous silage in slurry which keeps wrapping on the impeller of hispec agitator and slowing the flow also causing the whole thing to vibrate ,any ideas how to break up the fibers over the summer so it can be spread ,it is already watery enough

Could a sharp edge be welded on to the impleller on the bottom nothing too big or heavy that would upset the balance of the machine, it might slice through the long stuff before it gets a chance to wrap around it

Tried sucking but the fiber seemed to be in lumps ,did get some movement on it so might be able to suck tomorrow, will try .there is room for some pig slurry which might be worth a try ,this agitator seems to be able to attract stringy things for miles about and lap them on the bottom of the shaft ,there must be a better design

Have you a good lump of a tractor driving it ? There is a lad around here wit a big lump of 200hp deutz and big agitator , its leaving the normal sized agitators for dust and he is charging around 100 to mix a 3 bay tank which is great value really (he may not be covering his costs here but hoping to get other work out of it)

What horse power have you on the agitator, is it a farmers model or a contractors model.

We used to have a Cross contractors model on a 150hp tractor and in one certain tank similar would happen. the cattle were fed baled silage fed once a week and the stray silage on the slats was never cleaned up and went into the tank. When the agitator was running the grass kept collecting at the impellor exit / spout entrance (if that makes sense) and then it would vibrate. the only thing was to stop and clean out the grass out of the agitator by hand and start again. extra water made no difference.

We have since changed to an Abbey contractors model and find it a great machine. never blocked even in that tank. We have been told by several people that cross agitators have the reputation of being unblockable
We have never have a chopper/macerator on the agitator .

With regards power on an agitator, you can never have enough. i agitated an outside underground tank in 2 hours one day . The farmer told me a neighbor agitated it for him the year before and took two days to do it with a smaller tractor and a farmers agitator.

My best advice is to get a contractor in and see how he gets on. you could be surprised
