I started a thread in the PC BUilding & Upgrading forum and everyone recommended this one:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Plantronics-GameCom-Gaming-Headset-Surround/dp/B0079G2Y52/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1370780625&sr=8-2&keywords=gaming+headset

I haven't ordered it yet but I will once I get home. Its normal usb so I'm guessing its compatible with a PS3/4??

Been using Logitech G35's for just about the past two years and very happy with them.

    Yeah unfortunately the g 35 won't work on ps3

The platronics one read the sound is pretty poor but fir the price couldn't complain

Im looking for suggestions for a replacement headset to use while gaming/movie watching.

My current Tritton Ax pros are done the mic doesn't work and I have snapped some of the pins in the 9 pin adapters so now I only have 3.1 sound
I did like my trittons they done the job even though the sound wasn't perfect.

So I need a headset that will work for both PC and PS3/4 I could go with the new trittons pro+ but they are like €200 so not ready to part with that much if they are going to go the same way.

    Needs:
Surround sound 5.1/7.1 doesn't matter, real or virtual doesn't matter either.
Preferably Closed as I game in a room with other people so don't want to hear them or them hear me, a mic (that works) would be nice.
    Pc and Ps3/4 compatible.
    Comfy for long sessions too.
Cost not really an issue provided they are not silly money

I would go down the mixamp/decoder route with a different headset. i.e. say an astro mixamp with sennheiser or other headphones.

    or

I look forward to suggestions or improvements on any of the above decoders mods move if needed

Mate, if you're planning on buying a new console from Sony or Microsoft. Go cheap.

Because headsets on the market now will not work for next gen consoles.

I've been using an expensive set of Bose headphones until now so I'm prepared to put up with a drop in sound quality since I don't have €200 to blow on a new headset.

Link? I know the xbone will need all new stuff because it has to be microsoft approved so they can get a share of the profits, but Ps4 has an optical S/PDIF which if I think is the same as the Ps3

    Mixamp option: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0012XFDWO/ref=noref?ie=UTF8&psc=1&s=computers

I've the hifi equivalent of the PC360s which are the open version of the above. The sound quality is wonderful, it really does add a lot to gaming immersion. I'd personally go mixamp + proper headphone company headphones, Sennheiser, AKG etc.

I use these at the moment: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sennheiser-HD-598-Circumaural-Headphones/dp/B0042A8CW2/ref=sr_1_cc_1?s=aps&ie=UTF8&qid=1371076862&sr=1-1-catcorr&keywords=sennheiser+hd+598

Also, my main way of listening to music. You could use a clip-on mic or whatever to turn them into a headset, though honestly I think the sound quality improvement would be small over the PC360s which are based of the HD 558 drivers, I think. I'm very happy with them though my wife gives me crap for them being open so I'm looking at the pc350s for gaming in the evenings when my wife wants to watch TV or whatever.

I use this as an outboard DAC and Amp: http://www.amazon.co.uk/FiiO-Headphone-Amplifier-Analogue-Convertor/dp/B005VO7LG6/ref=pd_sim_ce_6

Cheap compared to the audiophile stuff, works fine and can drive nearly all kinds of headphones well (maybe the HD650s want more power, I don't know). It'd be PC only though, has a 3.5 unamped output at the back for regular PC speakers though which is handy.
