Can't really speak to the technika one but the 39-inch cello is pretty good.

Just got it a few days ago and while for some reason you can't adjust the sharpness on hdmi devices, it's pretty good for saorview/usb playback. Tried an MKV on it and it played perfectly, although currently I'm just using it has a monitor with VGA(looks fantastic).

    So not bad for €329.

Dunno if that TV will support Saorview as the weblink is for UK and of course doesn't mention Saorview.

It also seems to lack an analogue tuner, which would be an issue if you were using the TV with a Sky box in another room (and wired to this TV in a different room via RF2). Don't know if there are any analogue channels left on cable?

Of course, these things may not be important to some/many here, but I felt it worth mentioning.

Definitely supports saorview, says it on the box

hard to know - not much detail on the link...

Have just looked at these in Tesco in Tallaght and they don't have a refresh rate on the outside of the box. Anyone any idea?

Sorry to say this..but that 40 inch TV is not 299 euro.............It is 350 euro in Tesco Clarehall and also Artane Castle.

It was marked down by 50 euro from 400 euro today.

It's €299 on the end as you walk in. You must have been looking at the tvs on the canopy

A few years ago I bought a cheap 40" tv from argos (Evotel or something for €299) and other than the lack of overscan control, I have 0 complaints about it.

EDIT: basically the point of the above is that the unknown brands can be pretty decent too

I bought a 32" full 1080p LCD Technika from Tesco 5 years ago, and have zero complaints. The remote has stopped working, but I did leave it on the windowsill during a rain shower, woops.

    Quite tempted by this.

Why does it say "HD Ready" but then say "1080P"

    Thats confusing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,209 ✭✭✭maximoose

That is odd. Also it gives the resolution as 1920x1080.....but then beside "1080p HD" it says N?

Just buy it from Tesco UK with Parcel Motel and they will ship it to your house for a small fee or you can collect form their warehouse in Finglas. Use code Tesco TDX-KQ9V to get it for £197.

I think Dunnes Stores have them also for the same price.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,024 ✭✭✭✭ShaneU

That would be strange considering it's a tesco brand.

The main complaint from people on this Technika 40 inch TV is that it has crap sound.

Similar sound quality to the Hannspree TVs then.

Sound is crap on many makes of TV now, especially as they've got thinner leaving less room for half-decent speakers.

I guess that's why sound-bars are available nowadays. To make up for the mediocre sound quality from thin TVs.

Cork - saw some in Tesco Paul Street at closing time last night, and in Mahon on Wednesday.

for an extra 30 notes the Power City one looks better:

    LED
    better energy rating
    USB media player
    USB record
much thinner frame - the Tesco TV is ugly in comparison

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 15,858 ✭✭✭✭paddy147

5 of them available in Tesco,Artane Castle.

The box/packaging is very misleading to people.

    It says HD Ready 1080P.

my GFs mum bought the last one of these in Tesco Wexford town yesterday evening. Watching SD Sky box last night and must say picture and sound quality were very good. haven't watched any HD yet so can't comment too much but overall it seems a very good buy if you can get your hands on one. looks decent and the technika branding isn't too big.

Saw one today that was "freeview" approved but no mention of saorview on the box at all. The code was 40-270ROI, is this the same one we are talking about here or is it a different model. It's not on saorviews approved list of Tv's, just wondering has anyone bought one of these ones and does it work on saorview? Thanks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 142 ✭✭barrybones_wx

definitely saorview compatible. the source menu even has a saorview option in it (presumably a specific UHF frequency channel list?). First in the list of sources for sure...

Now showing as £217 and unavailable. :(
Did see one last night in tesco on the way to a party. Did not seem like the best time to buy it.

Saw an LG 50" in Tesco @ €399 in Finglas during the week a bit too big for me. :(

Did anyone buy one of these?

The one my OH's mother bought had a weird quirk where the remote would randomly stop being received by the tv, the buttons on the side of the tv didn't work either. to get them to work again you had to turn the tv off and back on again... at which point both would work for a certain period of time.

She went in yesterday to talk to someone to let them know she planned to bring it back - on the off chance they proposed she hold onto it til they had a replacement or something - and the guy in the shop said they had sold 20 in Wexford and 15 had been returned... TV is being returned and refunded today.

To be fair though, i thought the picture and sound quality were pretty good so it's a shame it didn't work.
