Any suggestions where I can go in the Kildare dublin area to get a connection fitted for connecting an iPhone to the standard radio in a 08vw passat?

Do you have an AUX input?

AUX input in cars was cool in 1982
Poor amplification, poor quality, no steering wheel control with that...

OP do yourself a favour and get a proper kit that does it all, with BT preferably, if you don't have it already. Plenty of kits out there, Grom Audio, Dension etc.

Don't assume I was suggesting connecting by cable! ;)

Rather than forking out for Dension - Belkin do a very affordable Bluetooth to Aux. Works a treat - just click the button to pair and play last played music

    Amazon Link

I was just forking out for anything but Belkin or the likes actually.
With this kit you still have to use the AUX input, your steering wheel buttons don't work and you have a device sitting on your dash with a wire going to the cig lighter.
This is cheap for a reason.

I have had a Dension in an older car - it was great at the time. Charged the ipod, tricked the car stereo into thinking it was a cd changer. It was great at the time.

I was looking at the Dension 500 for my new car - sure it integrated nicely with BMW iDrive with album art trackids and yes you can skip to the next track via the steering wheel .... but price including bluetooth module is €400 (ebay). Plus there is the installation cost/work.

With the Belkin (ok my cig lighter is right beside the aux port), I have the exact same functionality for €50 without the album art and track id. You can skip tracks using the same button to do the bluetooth synch.

You seem to be caught up with Aux - there is nothing wrong with AUX - the issue with Aux is that most people connect the headphone socket to Aux - this device uses A2DP to Aux. If anything, there is loss over bluetooth.

I am not saying that the Belkin is perfect, but it is worth a look before you go looking at more expensive kits. Depends on the layout of your car - but there was no way I was forking out an extra €350 for trackid!

a belkin/aux/a2dp or similar never compares to a full control kit , controlling the ipod from the head unit or steering wheel is much better.

the OEM kit or dension kit is a good option.
