Seat belt alarm goes off randomly depending on who's driving-
Its the drivers alarm that faulty
New part around 80e- is there any other (cheaper) way to get rid of the constant and random alarm?

    Anything considered

cut the wires going into the seat belt tensioner and join them together should leave it that the car thinks the seat belt is on full time

    Are these wires easily located?
    Total novice here-total!

    Tensior?

    Cheers for that though.

tensioner is where the seat belt clips into beside the seat. wires should be going into the base of this.
btw im not saying this will work on your car but I have done it on cars before and its worker perfectly.

    Cheers thanks for that
Will check out online and see if there are any pictures/diagrams etc that might offer similar solutions

At least I know there might be a way round it without forking over 80-90e!

    Thanks

Vagcom cable is the answer surely. You can plug in and select or deselect these options. You would therefore be able to turn off the chime without chopping anything.

It can be done via diagnostics as posted above. However it can also be done manually without doing any cutting. Slide back each front seat, lift up the black plastic panel on the carpet in front of seat. Unplug the *purple* plug. Job done.

Would have no access to VAGCOM cable-I see they can be rented though-
Will check out the plastic panel on the carpet on the front seat-This is on the floor right? Saw one large cable this morning, pulled up tuft of carpet that thought might have electrics underneath as it was cut into the carpet and was just more carpet underneath. May post pics later if I still cant get access!

Cheers again for all that v. helpful advice

Finally got round to looking for the electrics-These seem to be the only ones I can find on the drivers side, nearest window-

I couldnt locate any black plastic panel on the carpet in front of the seat only this

Couldnt see any purple wire though? Could it be any of the others? Afraid I may do damage if I pull any of the others!

    Cheers

Slide the seat all the way back. Then look at the floor right beside the seat rail. There should be a black plastic cover there.

The plug for the seatbelt latch is actually black not purple as I previously posted, one of the wires is purple though.

See this image from google of the plugs with the cover removed. Don't disconnect the yellow plug that is for the airbag:

Thank you very much for that image and your help

    2013-06-19%2021.58.42.jpg

Mine has the yellow part, the scart looking plug behind it and where you have the purple wire going into a black plug, I have a white and brown wire going into that same plug- Presume this would be same plug?
    Might that be it?
    Does it click out?

    Thanks again

That should be the one, unplug it and see what happens.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,776 ✭✭✭youngblood

Cheers will try that tomorrow and let ya know

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,728 ✭✭✭George Dalton

Ok that should work anyway. If not then you can always get it turned off via diagnostics. Where are you located?

After much procrastination, finally got round to unplugging that cable.
It was that black plug in the picture above with the brown and white wires. It needs to be unclipped at the side, then it slides up.
Gave a test drive and took off seat belt while driving ( I know not recommended) and no sound or alarm.

Anyone know if unplugging this would interfere with other electrics on the car?

Cheers to George above for his very helpful advice-something very simple but could have cost me a lot of money unnecessarily! Huge karma heading your way.

Cheers everyone- Another motor problem solved by boards.ie!

Hi I had the same problem and was told I'd need to replace the seat belt stack at a cost of €75 + fitting, after searching all over the internet I finally found your thread and I delighted to say that it worked, so thanks a million, however I have just question, in case of an accident will the drivers airbag still deploy? I've been looking at so many different so called answers to my problem that I read somewhere that it might not work?:)

    It will work.
