    Quick background....

Been training in Karate on and off since I was 12 (now 32) and started running 2 years ago. Furthest I went was the 10 mile mark...
I stopped running about a year ago at 4 months pregnant - it just didnt feel good. My little man is now 6 months old and I'm keen to return to running.

Last time I was running well, I didnt train in Karate and totally focussed on running. But this time round, I've been back at Karate 3 months so want to continue.

Do you think I can combine both without getting injured? I train in karate twice a week, for 2 hours a go. I'd like to also run 4 times a week. I went for 2 miles tonight and it was no bother, I actually felt very very strong in the legs which was great. I put this down to karate for sure.

Opinions? Would love to hear from yummy mummy runners too :)

(PS was looking at the Hal Higdon beginner marathon, think it is novice supreme...would one rest day be enough I wonder....)

I suppose it depends on the intensity of the running and karate. I do both...one karate class and once on my own, and give days running.....although I'm not looking for PBS etc in running

Karate can be beneficial for running, it builds up your core strength and greatly enhances your balance, all very good things.

You need to be careful, though. A friend of mine took herself out of action for several months when she did a martial arts class a few days after a marathon and badly hurt her foot. She obviously had not recovered something gave.

Yeah, I dread injuries. Especially the hips which get used a lot. I guess I will have to keep flexible and strong. And if i get back to doing long runs, do them on a sat morning so Sunday is my rest day. Karate then on a Monday.

Finding the time to do all this is the next challenge!!
