Charging for info on a forum?

I'm a member of an audi forum which is based in the UK but with lots of European members.
I got a cruise control kit for my Audi 80 lately and stuck up a thread asking about the wiring side of fitting it. Got 2 pm's from members saying they would help me for a 30 pound fee.
These lads were eastern european, now fair enough if someone does something for you, you sort them out, but these lads wanted me to send them money in return for telling me where 4 wires plug into. For all I know they hadn't a clue or i'd never hear from them again.
But in my eyes the point of forums is for people with similar interests to come together to share information.
    Anyone experienced this?

Tell them to go f*ck themselves!

Keep on searching, you should find the info if you look hard enough!

Have you tried a forum like autoshyte (spelt with an i not y).

They have a large mix of posters who could help

Have you started a thread about the issue here? There's a fair few VAG fanatics around that could see you right.

I spotted a thread about it, or at least a post.

OP don't pay for that info

Is that a nice silver Avant 80 by any chance?

Tried posting on a few VAG forums with no luck, even emailed the suppliers of the kit, they said they may be able to help but nothing as of yet.
No I wouldn't pay for the info, whatever about if it was someone nearby who offered to fit the kit and wire it in, I would have no problem paying for that

Did you get on to Kufatec themselves to get the info?
I bought a bluetooth kit from them a few years ago and the info supplied with
it was pretty rubbish considering it was very expensive .
I think they gave me a login and I had to download the info so I would try
    that first.

And as others have said, tell the other guys to F off

Was onto kufatec and they have no instructions for my model. Waiting on a reply from their technical team.
Just frustrating to have it sitting here after postage took 3 weeks and no instructions to fit it now that it is here.

Jim? I'm sure it is but i can't read wiring diagrams, but the lad I'm getting to have a look at it for me does so i'm sure it will come in useful! thanks

Thats similar to what I gave you last week.
I think you have most of what would be needed. Given that all your wires appear grey, you will have to trace this from the output pins if they are numbered as per the diagram.
No luck with finding a spare 6 pin connector around the steering column?
