Great. Always feel sorry for Daley about getting cut from the UFC in such a way as he can basically never get back in. Had he not hit Koscheck he'd likely still be in the UFC.

I met him at the UFC in Nottingham, he was sitting in the cheap seats and it looked like he had bought the ticket himself. Bisping spits in people's faces, Dana White calls people 'fags' and 'retards', Nick Diaz does more or less what he likes but Daley never fights again because of that mistake in the heat of the moment.

He sucker punched his opponent after the bell, not just a punch but a cowardly sucker punch. Don't talk about him like he is a victim, he deserved everything he got IMO

Fantastic fighter to watch too, probably one of the most exciting fighters outside of the UFC. It's a huge shame that something so petty has resulted in this situation, there would be some serious fights for him at welterweight in the UFC.

I'm not justifying what he did but the thing that annoys me was the fact that it was a lifelong ban. People make mistakes, look at Cantona's ban for the karate kick on a fan, look at the ban Suarez got for biting, both of those incidents were very bad form as well. Daley got banned for life with the decision being made by one man in a couple of hours, I just think that the punishment was disproportionate but then that's the UFC for you, they make the rules.

Daley sucker punched Koscheck. Just because other people areidiots doesn't mean Daley should be able to go around assaulting people.

Having said that, I don't think there's any reason he shouldn't get a second chance.

(ps. Didn't he already fight for Zuffa under the Strikeforce banner? )

Yep. It seems DW has taken this into his own hands though and he doesn't want Daley back in.
Although I'd say its only a matter of time before he lets him come back, providing Daley keeps winning of course.

Cantona and Suarez were given formal bans by a governing body. And rightly so.
Daley wasn't. No athletic commission has banned him. Nor should they. There is no ban.
He was fired by his employer.
If I hit somebody in work when they weren't looking, I'd expect to be fired too.
If Cantona and Suarez weren't massively valuable to their clubs at the time. They would of been sacked too, they were kept because it benefited the club, not because they were lenient.

Daley is massively valuable, I think that's the problem people have. It's a shame that one of the best fighters at that weight class isn't fighting in the best organisation when other, similar situations haven't resulted in the same outcome.

I don't know what your job is, but I'd hazard a guess that the comparison is completely irrelevant. Can you be easily replaced? probably. Can't say the same for Daley.

I agree that Daley is a good WW. Would be division be better with him in it.
But he wasn't valuable to the UFC in the same sense as Cantona or similar. Cutting Daley hasn't affected their revenue in the same way as losing a top footballer would.

And I don't think he was irreplaceable. He was mid-top 10, at best. He lost to Koscheck.
Since then we've had Diaz, and Conduit have a run. And now Johny Hendricks' stock is high.
Demian Maia is re-rising. Martin Kampmann and Ellenberger are holding the mid table strong while we wait for Rory MacDonald to be ready.

The majority of fans don't care that we never got to see GSP dominate Daley. You and I and the rest of the forum might regret it, but we're the minority I'd say. Had he beaten Koschek that time, and not lost those 3 times since, there would be a huge momentum about his ex-UFC run. But I think Diaz and Woodley took him of he map.

Jon Fitch and Ben Askren are probably the best WWs not with UFC. Then Daley. He's more exciting to watch then Fitch, but Fitch wins every time imo.

Pretty sure Dana already eased up a bit about his Daley ban. I remember hearing him asked by (I think) media about it and his response was that it wasn't his ban that was keeping Daley from a return to the UFC, it was the fact that Daley wasn't winning enough. If Daley put together the right run of results then Dana would have a decision to make but until then he didn't.

To be honest I think his wrestling weakness compared to the cream of the crop in the UFC WW division will always stop him becoming a real contender. Certainly some exciting fights to be had though, Hendricks (unless he becomes the champ), Marquardt, Condit, even Lawler.

    Edit, found it...

    Paul Daley deserved his ban.

But as people are saying if he put together a decent run Dana would let him back in.

Dana u-turns on just about everything. Heck he called EA Sports scum of the earth etc for making their own MMA game, saying he'd never deal with them again now EA are releasing the next UFC game.
