Download Icon on "Finder"

I think i'm going gaga on this one

Forgive me if the incorrect lingo is used but I'm not overly familiar with jargon.

Picture the scene , an image or document is downloaded and normally it goes into the "download" folder (under places) on finder.

Now that folder is no longer shown on the finder and images/documents show on top if the icon for the internal HD on the main screen.

Where could the original download folder be hidden as its not on the main screen or in trash.

    Any tips?

    Ernie B.

Press Finder in the Dock (bottom left icon)
Then at the top of the screen click on Go (top bar few inchs in from the left)
Downloads is in the Go menu

    Cheers for that ;)

How do i bring that to the same location as we'd say "places" where Desktop , Documents, movies etc are all located vertically ?

Then click Home instead of Downloads from the Go Menu

This is a good link for a new user http://www.apple.com/findouthow/mac/

Sounds like you have deleted your download folder and your downloads have defaulted to the desktop.

Check you still have a downloads folder. The path to it is <Hard Drive name>/Users/<your account name>. If you double click on your Hard Drive icon you can browse to the Users folder and check your user folder ( probably the only one created ). You can create a folder called downloads if it's not there and drag it to the dock to create a short cut to this folder (alias actually!). You can also drag the downloads folder to the side column in the finder window to create an alias there. These are all just easy ways to get to the same folder.

These are the folders that should be in each user account on a Mac with OS X ( you may have only one account on your Mac). This picture shows the user Switchtoamac.

Check that your browser knows to put the downloads in the downloads folder.
Open your Safari preferences and select the General tab.

Check where it says Save downloaded files to
