    Hi,
I will be travelling to Dublin soon from London via Aer Lingus and catching a connecting bus to Ballina. I'll be arriving into Dublin at 9.25pm and the last bus to Ballina leaves Busaras at 10.30pm, will I make it if I get a taxi?

You'll should make it in a taxi in about 15 minutes, but I don't know how long you might get stuck at passport control. I've seen that queue last 40 minutes, sometimes I've walked straight through.

That's 15 minutes if he takes the tunnel. Might be a fair bit more expensive. Also, there can be queue at that taxi rank too. There's a lot of variables really. But if you got to a taxi by 10 you should be fine.

Too close for comfort, should have got an earlier flight.

If you only have hand luggage, then maybe.

OP, why do you need to go to Busaras??

The 2230 bus from Busaras to Ballina picks up passengers at Dublin Airport (Bus Zone 12) at 2250 en-route to Ballina. If the flight is on time you'll have no problem making that bus from the airport stop.

    Here's the timetable:

Never ceases to amaze me how places outside Dublin have better bus services to Dublin airport, than places in Dublin do.

Seriously ! When I flew to Belgium last year, my taxi fares to/from Howth, cost more than the shagging air fare to Brussels. Madness !

Get a DART / 31 to Sutton and the 102 to the airport. :)

Not an option Victor. The first 102 from Sutton is at 10.30am & my flight was at 9am. I've also waited many a time for 31's that never show up, or are late, and that's just when I am doing unimportant trips into town. I would not risk using it for something as important as an airport trip, especially when it has to sync up with another (not very frequent) bus along the way.

On the way back, I arrived at the airport bus stop at 8.30pm, and the next bus wasn't until 9.55pm. That was too long of a wait on a freezing cold December night, so I just jumped in a taxi.

    6:30am flight ex Dublin Airport.

The Bus Eireann 22 will have me from Ballina in Dublin Airport at 5am. Cost €20.50.

However, from Lucan, even though the 22 stops in Lucan it won't pick up passengers. It's set down only.

Taxi is the only option, cost €30.

The 22.30 ex Busaras does pick up at the Lucan Spa hotel.. just make sure you put out the hand.

Admittedly the Liffy Valley/Lucan stops are very confusing for intending passengers, the 22 that operates from Busaras via the aiport pick up at Lucan and buses that operate from the airport via Busaras pick up at Liffy Valley.

Edit; Sorry misred your post. No the 22 won't pickup at Lucan inbound to Dublin/airport due to licence conditions.

http://www.airporthopper.ie/maynooth-route-page.html Maynooth - Intel - Leixlip Village - Springfield Hotel - Lucan Spa Hotel - Lucan Village - St. Edmundsbury - Clarion Hotel - Dublin Airport

    The existing route serves
    * Dunawley Estate
    * Foxdene Estate (Opposite Sean Kavanagh's Garage)
    * Liffey Valley - At shopping centre bus terminus
    * Liffey Valley - Clarion Hotel at hotel lobby entrance
    * Liffey Valley - N4 Foot-Bridge

Did that operator go bust before on the Tallaght route. Also, not serving Captains Hill in Leixlip will miss out on half the town.

Also, unlike the 22 that service does not go into the city centre, but instead uses the M50.

Fact remains right now during the wee hours it's easier and cheaper to get to Dublin & Airport from Ballina than it is from Lucan.

Just read the Airport Hopper website there and I found this very interesting indeed:

    http://airporthopper.weebly.com/maynooth-bus-stops-survey.html

Does this mean that the NTA are finally going to put an end to the practice of several different operators having several different bus stops at the exact same location? eg. Westmoreland Street.

No, I think it was a different operator.

Not quite, what I think they want is that all routes would readily interchange, without having to go 100m down the road to the other operator's stop. Therefore, there would be no duplication of road markings, bus shelters, etc, So here: http://maps.google.ie/maps?q=Leeson+Street+Upper,+Dublin&hl=en&ll=53.331424,-6.252401&spn=0.002973,0.021136&sll=54.346464,-6.271627&sspn=0.000804,0.002642&oq=leeson&t=m&hnear=Leeson+Street+Upper,+Dublin,+County+Dublin+City&z=16&layer=c&cbll=53.331427,-6.252411&panoid=DoUxgDOYzIbAWg_fA0Srtw&cbp=11,202.1,,0,-0.64 the Aircoach sign would be actually put on the bus shelter, just like the Dublin Bus one.

Westmoreland Street needs the long distance routes moved to a completely different stop.

That Leeson Street stop is ridiculous, blocks up the bike lane in all.

All operators should be made use the same bus stop pole at a bus stop IMO. More then one pole clutters up the street something terrible. When all services are numbered then there should be no problem just sticking all the route numbers up on the TFL style bus stop.

For this to be done properly, bus stop maintenance is going to have to be spun out of Dublin Bus into the NTA. The NTA can then have a network of generically-branded bus stops, and provide timetable information for services run by all operators at each stop. The operators would then pay the NTA for the upkeep of stops. This is basically how the RTPI displays work at the moment. Individually branded bus stops are a complete nonsense.

This would need to be managed carefully to avoid situations where the NTA is paying PSO subsidies only for the operator to pay the NTA for bus stops.

I don't see why that would be a problem. Use of bus stops should be considered part of the cost of operating a service. If money goes back to the NTA, that just means that costs will be reflected more accurately in accounts. The sum involved is likely to be miniscule in any event.

    From a simple question...
