Having issues trying to tune in rte, tv3 etc. Have a saorview approved combi box. Also have attached an indoor all in one aerial. Have been only able to to get the free to air channels. No irish channels. Have tried everything i can think of. I'm based in cork city subarbs so shouldnt have reception problems i think. Help would be much appreciated thanks

Indoor aerials aren't guaranteed to work anywhere. The transmission network is designed with outdoor receiving aerials in mind.

Find your exact location on the Saorview coverage map, see which is your recommended transmitter & try to position your aerial near a window facing the general direction of this transmitter. If that isn't possible & you can get no signal from the recommended transmitter, no matter where in the room you position the aerial, try the same for any other likely candidates on the map.

Should the irish channels automatically install through the saorview box with attached antenna or do i have tune them through the tv. Have the old sky dish lead connected to the saorview box at the moment giving me all the u.k free to air channels

You will tune them in through the Saorview box. Does your TV have a Saorview tuner? Which Saorview combi receiver are you using?

You should find out how to do a manual scan on the relevant channel, as this should bring up a signal strength/quality display on most receivers & this would be useful for positioning your aerial.

    According to the user manual:
    http://www.4ife.ie/uploads/SV-400_user_manual.pdf

you need to connect the indoor aerial to the DVB RF IN connector.

Then using the remote for the 4ife, go to menu- terrestrial channel search - Auto search and wait.

If nothing is found then move the aerial around and try again.

Better still get a proper outdoor aerial installed as the broadcasters intended.

Done all that besides shifting the indoor aerial around and not a sniff of rte.....gonna start readjusting the indoor aerial to different/better positioning

Used to have an old free to air box about 5/6 years ago before we got sky back in. A satellite dish was installed on the roof. We were unable to get the irish channels on the set top box but were able to tune them into the tv

Using the same cable now connecting to the saorview box. No irish channels though like I say.

If we could them before how come not now

If you select manual search, you will get a signal quality display.

Most of Cork city is covered by the Spur Hill transmitter on channel 45, so enter that as 'frequency channel' & watch the display as you move the aerial.

They were analogue and VHF. Completely different to digital and UHF.

Do you know if there's an aerial on the other end of this 'same cable'?

If you plug this cable into the tv, can you still tune in analogue channels?

Maybe it's a UPC cable? (The analogue channels could be gone off UPC in Cork for all I know tbh.)

Theres a satellite dish afaik...i can get the rte radio channels when i connect the aerial to the tv directly.

No tv channels though. The coverage map says channel 21 is the best from mullaganish. Have tried channel 45 with good signal

Just tried channel 21. Am able to ge the irish channels when i hold the aerial towards the far left hand corner of the window

Just have to work around that now.

Thanks very much for your help :)

I must have misunderstood your post #11 then. I thought you meant that in the past you could get the analogue Irish channels with a separate cable to the one from the dish.

Which only vindicates what I said in post 9. Go on do it. You spent a lot on your gear, why spoil it for the sake of a few euros on a decent outdoor aerial as God and the broadcasters intended.
