I have been using the park n ride facility the last couple of months at Cheeverstown as it has been free to park, this morning I parked as per usual expecting there to be a barrier into the car park and maybe take a ticket. But none. How does it work? I read the instructions on the parking machines but dont understand at all. It says you type in the bay number your car is in, but I dont see any way of validating this, ie why wouldnt I just drive out without paying??

They have security staff that go around checking and clamping if necessary.

I still dont understand how it works, the ticket machine says you dont have to display a receipt on the car so how would they know who to clamp? And if I pay first thing in the morning how would the machine know how much to charge me,,,>???

They know which space you are parked in and who has paid.

I presume you tell it whether you want a half day or a full day.

If it works like the green line P&R you put in your parking bay number and €2 and it tells you what time that will bring you up to (think it's 4 hours) and gives you the option to put in another €2 to extend the parking to 24 hours. Don't think there's an option to pay for a number of hours in between but I think it would be good to have a €3 option for maybe 6 hours or something. When the van comes around they have computer records for which bays are paid up and for how long.

Just to mention I once got delayed and had only paid €2 so I rang them to explain and see if I could pay more over the phone. They couldn't do this but because I rang them they said they wouldn't clamp me on this occasion so you might give them a ring and explain you are getting to grips with the new system as it has only come in they may be lenient- worth a shot anyway :)

Thanks for explaing that, Luas really should have proper explanations on the parking machines. Anyway I rang them and they kindly agreed to let me off today. I'll know in future!

Just remember to note your parking bay number when you get out of the car as certainly on the green line route the parking machines are on the Luas platform so you'd have to walk all the way back to your car to check the number if you forget! But maybe in the one you're using the machines are closer to the car...
