Is citizenship irrevocable?

Question is: How many people have actually been stripped of Irish citizenship?

    Anyone know?

Seems like citizenship is untouchable to me, but the law states otherwise...

    Thanks in advance.

To be clear, naturalisation is revocable, citizenship by birthright is not.

I don't believe naturalisation has ever been revoked under the Irish Nationality & Citizenship Acts.

As said, citizenship by birth cannot be revoked. Only if it's been given you in later life.

There was talk of revoking citizenships for som people last year but I don't think anything came of it.

Hundreds of naturalised Irish citizens could lose their citizenship if the State decides to fully implement the terms and conditions of naturalisation, it has emerged.
The news follows anecdotal evidence that many naturalised citizens are relocating away from Ireland but are not registering their intention to remain Irish citizens, as stipulated by law.
Although the Department of Justice has told Metro Éireann that “no persons had their certificate of naturalisation revoked between 2009 and 2011,” a naturalised Irish citizen can still be stripped of their citizenship under certain conditions.
I think this mainly concerns Nigerians that after getting Irish citizenship use it to get to US and Canada.

Technically you can't even give up your Irish citizenship if you have it from birth. You can notify the minister for justice of your intention to do so, if you plan on becoming a citizen elsewhere, but you have a lifetime unlimited right to reclaim it again whenever you want.

The only actual case I'm aware of is James Gralton in the 30s:

Jimmy Gralton (17 April 1886–1945) was an Irish communist leader, who became a United States citizen after emigrating in 1909, and the only Irishman ever deported from Ireland.

Ken Loach, who directed "The Wind That Shakes The Barley" is planning a biopic of Gralton:
