Can I ask why? Not a great starting point in terms of overall size for commercial purposes.

you'll need to take the back seats out, weld in a flat floor, remove the seat belts and weld up the anchor holes, blank out the windows and disable the rear electic windows. Then get an engineers report stating he/she have inspected it and deem it satisfactory.

Then go get all the necessary forms done

    Then get a new doe

    volia! Audi A6 Van!

Its just the owner doesn't want to pay the crazy tax and also it will be handy for moving stock for his company.

Can anyone do this..I am fairly handy with the tools. Can manage taking the seats out and welding the anchor points. Also could I use plywood to do the floor on the inside and cover it in carpet ?

He'll be taking a huge hit on the resale value. I'd imagine it'd be damn well near worthless...

Why doesn't the owner y'know, just buy a van or if it's that he wants the comfort of the A6 surely there has to be a better already-commercialised version of a estate/car available?

I'm not sure about using ply as the floor but for definitive answer, just ring a motor engineer for advice beforehand, and they'll tell you want they'd be looking to see when they do their report on it.

I can understand where he is coming from. Big comfy car, leather, cruise, etc.. But with a heap of space in the back and can put it through the business. Unless you go for a 4x4 there's not too many commercial options that give great comfort or trim levels.

I used to do some sales work for a hardware company and they gave us brand new golf vans in base spec. If I could have gotten a 4 year old A6 avant for the same money, same tax and same engine..and turn it into a van. I know which I would choose.

Yes it's unusual, but its straight forward to do. There are a few similar estate conversions knocking about. No different to a jeep.

Best off using steel, thats what I used in my conversion for the floor

You don't need to blank out the windows if the VRT has been paid in full and if the A6 has been taxed privately in the past

Window will have to be blanked if its a import and no VRT has been paid or if it hasn't been taxed privately in the past

a recognised motor engineer to have a report done as you'll not get a DOE without one- look, just ring one and ask them all your questions, they deal with this stuff daily, and will inform you how to go about it.

Limo black the windows. Once you have that other stuff done you go to get it signed off by an engineer. Reclassify it at the tax office then doe and away you go :) ( maybe doe it first before reclassifying it been a while since I did my one)

It's not just a case of putting in a flat floor it has to be a permanent fixture in that you can't remove it once the inspection has been carried out. you also need to have a vertical piece behind the seats i think it's about 6 inches or so. It has to be metal you can't slap in some plywood. They're really clamping down on the luxury vans/tax dodgers these days

If you're driving this also keep in mind that if you're driving with heavy materials in the back and crash into something at speed you're going too be the stopping point for this stock.

Personally I think it's a ridiculous idea sell the car buy a van there's loads of comfy vans out there.

A commercial ml,x5,rr or q7 surely would give the comfort and style of the a6 with more space.

That's incorrect, you do not have to blank out the windows.

Both myself and my brother have commercial SUVs with the back window and side windows completely untouched from how it left the factory. And neither were ever taxed privately.

We also have the electric window functionality in the back windows working. You would not know it was a commercial at all when it was driving past you.

Have one of them 3 years, and one 4 years, have had doe on both each year in different Dublin centres without anything ever been said.
