Did anyone hear the show tonight with that poor suicidal man on? Sound like he is going through hell over there in Finglas. Funny enough most of the people that rang in seemed to add to his abuse..

Just so happened that I was listening and it really was quite irresponsible to let the poor guy on (it's not the first time they've done something like this either).

Kennedy, while I don't doubt his sincerity, really did go over the top in his almost goading of Finglas. I'm sure that he was doing it to shame the guy's community in getting behind him but I'd be concerned that this will only now galvanise his tormentors.

I remember last week they were talking about the dole and they had a guy ring in saying how much money he has and life on the dole is great and he can afford to drink everyday in the nice sunny weather, I had a feeling they got him to call in lol

Wasn't that the bit that led to this... http://radionation.ie/2013/06/fm104-callers-windows-smashed-live-on-air/ ? Finglas again...

I'm originally from Finglas and I know the area well that this incident happened and to be honest, it's like the wild west at times. If I was John, I would sell up and move out. The dragged up scumbags in that area will keep trying to push him over the edge to either physically retaliate or commit suicide. He doesn't stand a chance unless the community look out for him and most people are too afraid to speak up in-case they also become a target.

Adrian Kennedy shouldn't have let him back on the air after he had his windows smashed. He was hyped up and defiant at the time, threatening to take out whoever threw the bricks through his window but I knew it was going to backfire. You can't reason with unreasonable people and it's no surprise that John was back on the radio last night, at a low ebb, threatening suicide, having been punched earlier on that day, probably because of his defiance on the radio.

My heart goes out to the guy and hopefully a few of the neighbours will rally around and keep an eye out for him otherwise he's better off putting his house up for sale and renting somewhere else in the meantime. Nobody should have to live under those conditions.

To be honest I can't understand why he just doesn't move, I mean on the radio he said he was suicidal and then 5 minutes later says he would never move because he shouldn't have to..

Now I know he has the right to stay there but why would ya? I wonder will boards.ie get a mention on the show tonight. Anytime a thread is made Jeremy seems to have read right the way through it.. lol. I'v heard him mention the site a good few times.

Yeah, it doesn't make any sense that he would want to live there anymore given that a lot of undesirable people now know who he is and where he lives. He'll be forced out if he doesn't move out or top himself in the meantime.

To be fair, "John" doesn't hold back with his opinions whenever I've heard him on the Adrian Kennedy phoneshow and he does tend to talk about working class people in a disparaging way and regularly antagonizes other callers with his use of the term, "lower class". I personally don't agree with his opinions most of the time but he's entitled to his opinion and shouldn't be targeted & intimidated by the locals but I can't see how he's going to be able to continue to live there long-term given what's happened over the past few days.

Well if so let him name me, I can make sly comments aswell;) In all fairness we are only discussing the show and the only reason I listen is because I only have 2 stations on the car radio and the other one is in Irish. Maybe they should cancel the show and just play music throught out the night ;p

I actually agree with a lot of what John says but the thing is you can't make them views known on a radio show, especially if your already a target and well known in a rough area like Finglas..

I read the tweet there. He's right, it shouldn't be swept under the carpet. But I'm a bit perplexed about him thinking that himself and Kennedy are the men to take on the subject, given that they nearly crapped their pants in a similar situation last year.

The adrian kennedy show is gutter radio at its worst. I've always found it to be lowest common denominator Jerry springer-like drivel that very often skirts the borders of decency and good taste for the sake of listener ratings. Why they resort to irresponsible radio like having a suicidal caller who in reality should be referred directly to the samaritans rather than be fodder for a radio show is beyond me.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 34 Stu_77

I was thinking the same thing myself last night. It was very irresponsible of Adrian to let John back on the air given his frame of mind but then after John admitted that he was suicidal they allowed people to ring in and have a pop at him  which is obviously going to further negatively impact on the guys mental health.

The whole thing has been handled very badly by FM104 and I hope they bend over backwards to help John with any future support he needs, given that they have exacerbated an already volatile situation.

Jeremy have you had training on how to handle situations like this, since the last time you gave that idiot on the bridge a platform?

Guarantee we'll be told how people on boards are trying to avoid the suicide issue in Ireland :rolleyes::rolleyes:

I've been listening to Adrian's show for years. Hope John's alright and not saying for one second he deserves what's happening to him but to be quite honest, if it's related to his remarks on the radio then I'm not surprised. He's annoyed me enough at times to make me turn off the radio. He brings society and class into every single one of his calls and is always insulting and putting down disadvantaged Dublin areas and the people who live in them, especially with his favourite expression: ''lower class''. That term alone angers and offends a hell of a lot of listeners and it was probably bound to happen sooner or later that his house would be attacked, which I'd put good money on it that it was by people in his area who regularly listen to the show and were offended by his calls.

I remember one time he said all ''lower class'' areas are full of scum that have drunks sitting out their front gardens drinking and blaring loud music 24/7, His list included finglas, Tallaght, Ballyfermot, Clondalkin and I think he mentioned Blancherstown. You can't insult areas like that on a national radio show ffs

I agree. What surprises me even more is that he lives in Finglas himself apparently, which is an area he puts down probably most out of all. I remember another recent topic that was brought up about how and why people receiving welfare or rent allowance are having huge difficulty finding places to rent - when he came on he said to another caller: ''The lower class will never get a flat.'' The stereotyping from him is deplorable. Again, I hope he'll be alright but with tens of thousands of people around Dublin listening to the show every night coupled with his remarks and how regularly he's on, he could hardly expect to be left in peace.

I'v stopped listening to the show it just all sounds so fake at this stage. It's just the same childish **** every night now. Don't know why it's considered an adult chat show lol. I'm sure plenty of 6 year olds would understand most of it :p:p

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,890 ✭✭✭✭Exclamation Marc

I feel terribly sorry for that poor guy and I in no way condone what happened to him.

That said, he should be smarter, predicting that if he goes on public radio and slams and derides those around him, especially in such a rough area he is inviting retaliation to some degree.

I fear he lacked a bit of common sense here.

That said, the phoneshow are milking it for all its worth.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 22,905 ✭✭✭✭Handsome Bob

Ah, didn't know that he was a frequent caller and baiter of "lower class" communities. In no way excuses what has happened to him but yeah, he should have more sense.

Then again, if mental health issues really are involved then it's understandable that he might not realise his actions will have repercussions. The onus should be on the show to make that decision for him and not let him on air.

The premise of the show is to give some gouger with outlandish views a platform to spout disgust, hate or whatever they choose. So much so, that people are outraged to ring in.

Over the years, the loony opinions have got even more crazy in order to stretch the boundaires of people who have heard it all at this stage

Kennedy is extremely annoying in the way he gets his back up when folks question the legitimacy of some of his opinions, and the show in general.

They seem to have a batch of callers who they obviously seek out in order to stoke the fire, to get people to call in. Theres one particular girl who rings in and spouts the absolute opposite of anything held as reason in order to outrage the listeners into engaging in a debate.

Kennedy knows its a load of sh*te and it bugs him to be reminded.
