Have been scanning cars on Autotrader.co.uk and seen a '56' reg car that the dealer is saying is a 2007.

When you type the reg into any of the car checks you get 2006 listed.

    Can he be right?

    Yes; 56 covers from 1 September 2006 to 28 February 2007.

56 can be 2007, the date of registration determines what irish plate it'll have.

Registrations in the UK change in April and September - so a 56 plate registered after September 06 would be valid until April 07.

    So yes, possible.

    I think.

Thanks all. So it must have registered it in 2007, which I assume means it'll have an 07 Irish reg if I was to buy it.

    They change in March.
    So 56 is from 1st September 2006 to 28th Ferbuary 2007.

Just done a quick check and the car in question is showing a registration date of Sept 2006, yet he is advertising as 2007.

Have emailed him to confirm, but already losing interest.

Possibly a pre reg; dealer reg'd it in September and kept on forecourt until January 2007 - owner might not be pulling a swifty so much as projecting his experience onto the facts - of course this is not possible if he's the 5th owner.

The car is being sold by a dealer - they'll know the date of first reg.

Id be thinking the dealer is chancing his arm. Makes little difference to a UK buyer but I'd certainly believe the dates the history checks are giving you.

As I follow up I emailed him and asked him the craic, as I told him the car was coming up on the checks as a 2006.

He told me it was a 2007 model but registered in Sept 2006. I checked his advert again and it has now changed to 2006 in the description.

And this is why our system works better - no guesswork involved, none of this spanning two years malarkey and people/dealers trying to pull a stroke as in this instance.

Now if we could only get rid of that stupid 1x1/2 system they brought in this year...

they just might, sure wasn't it only there to avoid unlucky 13 reg'd cars!

.. which is ridiculous in itself as the "13" is still on the plate! I think it's permanent though?

Use this site to get the date of first registration in the UK

I think there was a subsidiary issue that 1913 cars might realistically be imported!
